Mutliple houses per account - the way it was

Post by Mens Rea »

Prior to the 1 house per account rule there was the 1 house per character rule.

The basis of this was that if Character 1 and Character 2 had a house then neither of them would have the inherent powers of the owner simply by being on the same account.

each char of your account is a friend of anotherone's house, unless he,
or another char, does not own his own house. i.e. if you have only 1
house on your account, each char is a friend of the house, if you have
more than 1 house, they can not become friends of the house.

To paraphrase the other answers, all of your characters will automatically
be friends of your house, as long as they do not own a house themselves.

I have like 3 houses....I have been fortunate enough to figure a way to
friend them to each other's house. But, since the last patch...i have been
unsuccessful.

Does anyone know of another way this can be achieved??

All of your characters can't instant log in both houses. Only the chars
that are not house owners can instant log at both houses. The other two
house owners can only instant log at their respective house. Also another
draw back is that the house owners cannot use the containers that the other
house, bummer. Anyway hope this helps.
And there was seemingly a work-around:
Well, only your characters who DO NOT own a house are supposed to be able to
be "Friends" of your house. I had a bug and my original character (who had
a house) could quick log & use all containers just fine......but the "New
Owner" lost rights at the 1st house. (This is supposed to happen according
to OSI/GMs.......)

That being said, there is a way around this problem!

1) Bring the character you want to "Friend" to the house, and use an item
which gives our a targetting pointer.

2) Log out that character my pressing the button on the paper-doll. (DO NOT
INVIS/HIDE)

3) Wait the required 6-9 minutes.....

4) Log in with the house owner.

5) Bring up the paper doll.

6) Use the house menu to select "Add a Friend..."

7) Log-Out the owner (with the targetting reticule for the "Add Friend,.."
still active

8) Log Back in the desired character to friend.

9) Click on yourself, the targetting reticule should still be there...

10) He's now a friend of the 2nd house.....enjoy your new abilities at the
2nd house.

It's a bug anyway, don't replicate the bug.

At the end of the day, this is how multiple houses per account worked in T2A.

It was a disincentive to having multiple houses per account (that is, if you wanted to use them all as working homes).

I think the housing system needs an accuracy overhaul, and what better time to bring up this issue than now (with the discussion of cut-off dates and Phase II housing going on).

The housing system does need a major accuracy overhaul, this, co-owners, locked down stack-ables, etc. And while I intended to do this sooner rather that later, I've been having a very hard time getting past a lot of the already pending changes and significant bugs in order to work on some desperately called for inaccuracies with the combat system.

It is likely that changes to the housing system, however dire the need of rework will have to wait a bit until I'm able to address them. Many of these issues have been brought to light recently and while screaming "fix me" at this point, they have been ok for two years and I should only need to table them for a short period while I get caught up on other issues that I'm wholly committed to addressing.

Yeah I know, I dig it.

I wasn't trying to hurry you along.

I've just been doing some digging through these old newsgroups and there's lots of interesting things going on :D

You've turned up some great stuff. I don't mean to say turn down the pressure, UOSA deveopment thrives on it.

The notion of each other character on an account being an implied friend of a house (provided they don't own their own house) is also supported by the patch notes. Here is an excerpt from the 12/3/98 patch notes which completed the 3 phase system from the first house system to the T2A house system:
Friend of the house is defined as
[*]Being the house's owner
[*]Being on the house's explicit friends list
[*]Being a character on the same account as the owner, unless you own a house yourself
