Animal Taming. At least you can macro lockpicking to a point. You can't really effectively macro Animal Taming.

You can macro taming easily.

What I mean is, you can sit in your house afk with a locked box in front of you and get lockpicking up high. I realize that you can't do it to GM, but you can get it up pretty high.
With taming, you have to monitor it a LOT more than you do with lockpicking. Unless I'm doin it wrong, in which case let me know please!

You can probably GM taming in, at the most, the same time you need to GM lockpicking.
From my experience you will get .1 LP after 20-25 lvl 4 chests. There are 10 spots in Brittania, and 3 spots that I know of in the lost lands that spawn lvl 4 chests. That is, with luck (having two at one same spot, and no one picking them at the same time as you), 14 chests total. They respawn every 45 minutes or so. If we're talking constantly working the chests, those 50 basis points you need will require you pick over 1,000 chests, which means around 72 "rounds", which translates to about 54 hours of constant picking...among Balrons (in a spot you can't recall to or from), Ancient Wyrms, Dragons, and in the most heavily pk patrolled areas...you know, same old, same old.
Oh, and that's if you're lucky.

But the plus side of lockpicking is, you look up from your Skills scroll and you're at 99.4, and you say to yourself, "wow I'm close!" and check your bank balance, and realize you're ridiculously rich. I probably earned a Tower deed from lockpicking 95.0 to GM, and that was just in gold. Probably had another 250k in items I saved.

I tend to agree with this. It is very easy to macro, but it takes FOREVER!

Well, so does hiding, and tracking. When I think Hardest Skill I don't think of how long I have to stay afk before I can GM it, I think of what skills I can't do afk.

Haven't GMed either yet but I despise LPing and taming was quite bad from 75-85.
The reason I dislike these skills is that you need naturally spawning "resources" to raise them. Not like alchy or smithy where you can just buy 100k nightshade/ingots and do 8 hour afk stints.
BTW, chests don't take 45 minutes to respawn if you EMPTY THEM OUT! I hate recalling around and seeing "a treasure chest (2 items, 5 stones)".

Taming took me less than a month to GM....Lockpicking probably takes months just to get the last .5.

IMO you only really need to get stuck into taming from 50-85. With agro through walls, I can AFK 30 min stints at hell hounds carrying 0 resources so it doesn't matter a damn if someone comes and PKs/griefs me, it only takes 1 gate from an alt to solve that and I lose nothing except time... which I don't lose anyway, since I'm doing LPing on my alt
