Will using accurate bows make archery skill go up slower?

Or will it go up faster because skills gain better when the check is successful?

Assume we have 86 archery and a +14 bow, that would be 100 combined. It would be impossible to gain any higher (which I'm sure you can) if the accuracy modifer affected skill gain, wouldn't it?Mikel123 wrote:It will make your skill go up slower, because at higher levels of archery, you have less of a chance to gain skill. Successful checks has nothing to do with skill on this shard (sorry, I'm like 99% sure about this, not 100).
Yes, it could help your Archery skill under some conditions by moving it closer to your enemies. It will however, always help your Tactics gains since that depends upon a successful hit (and rarely will you be sparring against someone with exactly 0 skill).Mikel123 wrote:The one exception is if the accuracy mod gets you closer to the weapon skill of your enemy. So if you have 70 archery and equip a +5 bow, and are shooting at a 90 wrestling enemy, moving closer to 90 might help you more than the difference in skill gain from 70 to 75. I'd bet not though... I'd bet you're best off using plain bows.
I might be missing something, but I don't follow.Rammar wrote:Assume we have 86 archery and a +14 bow, that would be 100 combined. Displayed skill is what is used when gaining any other skill, isn't it? Eg. lockpicking stops at 95 shown on a GM lockbox, but you could have several different "real" values depending on stats. If the skill gain formula (using displayed skill) was being used *after* the accuracy modifier was applied you would never have any chance to gain if over 99.9.Mikel123 wrote: I guess you're assuming UO uses:
"If displayed skill >= 100.0, then skill gains are impossible."
My impression was that it uses:
"If real skill >= 100.0, then skill gains are impossible."

The former is true, not the latter.Mikel123 wrote:I guess you're assuming UO uses:

I assumed neither of these things.Mikel123 wrote:Mikel123 wrote: I guess you're assuming UO uses:
