The relationship between smelting and smithing/mining skills

Hi folks,

I'm a bit lost with smelting. I know a smith will yield more ingots if they have mining skill, but is smithing checked when smelting down weapons at all? Is it all on the mining skill?

Currently I have a miner with 95 mining and no smithing, and a crafter with 65 smithing and 55 mining - Which character should smelt the piles of cutlasses I've got stacked around the house?

Lastly - What level of mining skill is 'worthwhile' for a smith who never mines, would GM mining mean much more of a smelting yield than 80 mining for example, is it worth it?

Thanks :)

smelting is 100% mining skill, so higher mining = more ingots upon smelting.

i'm not sure of the difference between 80 and GM mining, the wiki might have some info.. at most it's probably 1-2 ingots more at GM but don't quote me.
