No, es un modismo (slang), viene de la pregunta "¿Qué onda?" que se usa como "what's up?", se contesta lo que este pasando, y si es algo bueno se dice "que buena onda!!" o "que mala onda!!" si es algo malo. Sería similar a decir "groovy" o "bummer" respectivamente.

"Onda" literalmente traducido sería "wave", pero usado en un contexto de ondas de radio (radiowaves), ondas sonoras (soundwaves), etc; no olas de mar (waves in the ocean).

¿Lo que no entendí es el "regalo" (gift)? ¿No habras querido decir la oferta?

I get that it's used in slang, and literally means "wave" but only in the physical sense, not the action. A great deal of that confuses me, so I will just say this.

No, no era mi intención que lo tomaras mal (don't take me wrong, your spanish is probably much better than most latin immigrant's english, and the effort to learn a new language is commendable).

Ok, to clarify the "Que buena onda!!" issue, when you ask somebody "what's up?" (Que onda?), and the answer "me dieron un aumento de sueldo!!" (I got a raise), it'd be appropriate to say "Que buena onda!!" (good news!!). If the answer is "atropellaron a mi perro" (my dog got run over by a car), a good answer would be "Que mala onda!" (bummer). In this context you cannot really translate just a part of the expression, it has to be taken as a whole (both the question "Qué onda?" and the reply "que buena onda"). Onda is the word of choice currently, but this expression has several variations, you can also ask "Qué pedo?" very widely used, but more vulgar; or "Qué rollo?" more 80's, and a couple others depending on the region you visit. All the responses would also adapt the word in the question: "que buen pedo" or "que mal rollo", for example; but they would all mean exactly the same regardless of the word you use.

So, my earlier post would start something like: Matron speaks spanish?? Good news!!

Regalo (gift) / Rifa (raffle) no son exactamente lo mismo, y en una conversación normal no se usan mucho salvo para describir excatamente un regalo o una rifa. En este caso sería mas adecuado decir, gracias por la oportunidad (thank you for the opportunity), o gracias por la offerta (thanks for the offer).

Yo vivo en México y el español es mi lengua nativa, pero durante un par de años enseñé Inglés mientras estudiaba en la universidad, entonces entiendo un poco sobre las diferencias entre un idioma y el otro, y lo que he encontrado es que, al principio, si procuras hablar de una forma apropiada, es más fácil que te entiendan, dado que estas usando las palabras con su significado literal, no tratando de usar sentido figurado (speaking properly will make you be better understood, as you are using the word in their literary meaning, as opposed to using them figuratively).

Cuando quieras buscame en IRC o mandame un PM aqui en los foros y te ayudo a practicar.

Español es lenguaje número tres para me. Literal y figurado confudida me hace un rato aprendizaje inglés. Give me another month, I just began this last week. It will take me a loong time to reply on IRC, but PM/forum let's me think a bit about what is being said. I am still learning "Mi nombre es Matron. Encantada.. etc. I like to say Igualmente, because it sounds fun, and fits almost every situation!

Igualmente works great for many situations. Just remember nouns, adjectives and adverbs in spanish have a female and male version, just be sure to be using the correct one.

(FYI: In your reply you are using the female version in both "confundida" and "encantada".)
