Is sharing accounts allowed?

I find a lot of players who have quit give their accounts to old friends. The old friends stick around.

Come event time, they use the accounts to obtain goods (like during xmas, the xmas ticket ordeal saw alot of old faces reappear magically!)

What is the stance on UOSA for sharing accounts?

It is pretty clear, If anyone is using more than 3 accounts, they are doing so illegally.
If someone wants to inherit a friends accounts they have to pick the 3 that they want and contact staff to let them know, or run the risk of having all their accounts banned.

Seems like in the past that some people have gotten away with only having their "surplus" accounts banned.

There are definitely some grey areas here... For example, Derrick has made comments in the past that it's perfectly fine to log onto a friend's account and refresh their structures. Also, guilds like mYm have mentioned many times over on the forums/irc that they all use one tamer account that has never been scrutinized by the staff here. The only time a major crack down happened in the last two years here was when old accounts were being used to abuse the holiday gift handouts.

An issue I think needs addressing is whether or not someone getting busted for multi-accounting should have all their accounts banned. I know a case where a guy who was using more than 3 accounts to ghost block housing spots. When Derrick was notified, he banned the guy's ghost accounts and let him keep his 3 main ones. Honestly, I think it's fine that some people refresh some of their friend's accounts for housing, or to get bank access or whatever, but using more than 3 accounts systematically in a manner that gives an unfair advantage (ghosting IDOCs/housing spots, camping rares, etc) should be punished harshly.
