It's win/win. I make money, the person who wins gets a great weapon for next to nothing.
Works the same way with real world chances you buy at local carnivals.

if you add more books after the first 20 are sold, then you are somehow cheating people.

Um, no.

He plainly said there could be more than 20 books.

I fail to see how it's cheating people. The only reason I don't put all 60+ books I have already made up on at once is because of:
A: Vendor Costs
B: It gives other people the opportunity to get in on it as well
C: I don't want one person buying up all the books. Otherwise I may as well just sell it outright, which is not the point.

Consider it gambling just as small games of chance. If you lose, you're out 5k. What is that, like 5 minutes of hunting? If you win, you get an amazing weapon for cheap. I'm not doing this so someone can gobble up all the books, I'm doing it so people can have a chance to get something they may not otherwise have the opportunity to buy because people who have millions can outbid them every time. This evens the playing field for the poorer players. This is not for one person to buy all the books and insta-win.

And about my making money from it since the issue was brought up earlier, the money I make is going to fund another event. I pretty much have everything I want in the game itself so gold means nothing to me.

EDIT: I should also mention that the books are off vendor right now because of server down time. They will be back up about 30 minutes after the server comes up.

ok on the fact that its good for the community, for an event, and i support that and dont worry i support your project overall, just making a point here

in gambling games, the price of the ticket is always in function of

- number of chances to win
- prize value

lets say prize value is 100k here
it sounds reasonable to have 20 tickets
5k per sounds ok then

if you diminue the number of chances to win, you should either increase the prize value to compensate or lower the overall ticket price but that would be too late since the first batch would have been sold...

Except that you consider that in the real world application of chances, you're looking at a prize usually of $100 or so to between 500 to 1000 tickets sold.

For an item that sells for between 100k - 150k from what I've seen on the forum depending on the buyer, I'm about in the proper area of 60 chances at 5k each. Though I doubt I would sell that many of them anyway.

one more time, i understand perfectly, but then you should say something like there will be 40 tickets but fixed amount of ticket.

My two cents: You can buy a raffle ticket and have no idea how many total tickets will be sold, but generally that only occurs with charitable institutions (fund raising, church, etc.). I see Bigoud's point in that every other gambling apparatus generally discloses the true odds of winning a prize (which I why I'll never buy a lottery scratch-card ever again). Either that or the odds are mathematical and readily available (e.g. casino games).

My opinion is that if Corbin is setting a minimum book amount of 20, he should set a maximum book amount too. It shouldn't be confused with auctions which justifiably have a minimum, but not a maximum.

Considering I don't think I'll even sell the 60 books I have made up, the point is moot. You guys are digging far too deep into this. I'm trying to do something different and that might benefit someone who doesn't have the hundreds of thousands in gold others may have and am getting nothing but criticism.

Don't like the way I'm doing this? Don't buy and don't post.

For the record, I was gonna buy one when I got home from work. I don't pvp and I don't even have a hally mage. I just thought it was a fun idea.
