A simple way for a new player to get some gold

Post by Sexton »

Other people may have different starting strategies (and these forums help), but here's what worked for me: sheep. I know you probably didn't sign up to be a shepherd, but this is an easy way to make enough for hat 1st house.

Start out by buying 30 or so skill in Animal Taming (or make a character with taming and lore). The stable in NW Skara Brae is good for this and it's probably where you'll be banking. Herd or camp to get your strength to 100. Just west of the stable is a little farm; go shear the 3-5 sheep in there and tame them. Make a macro for shearing with your newbie knife...you're going to be using this a lot. Now if you leave those sheep there, no more will spawn, so move them 2-3 screens away. The area down south at the docks or east near the tailor is good. New sheep will spawn in 15 minutes, so round them up and take them to your makeshift corral.

Once you've got a bunch of wool, take it to the tailor in the SE. 2 click the wool to spin it on the wheel, then 2 click the balls of yarn and use it on the loom to make bolts of cloth--a macro helps. Sell these bolts for 60gp each to the tailor--the sell agent helps. You may notice that the price goes down after you sell a lot to one tailor; find another.

Now if you're just farming that one little stable in Skara, it's not going to be enough to keep you busy, so head to Yew. South of Yew bank you'll find 3 more stables (look for it on UOA Map). Do the same thing at all 3 of these stables: shear them, tame them and move them someplace out of the way--the farm due south from the westernmost stable is good. Take your wool to the tailor and bank the gold.

Once you've run though this a few times you'll have 25 or so sheep in Skara and 75 in Yew. They'll grow new wool fast enough for you to keep running around and take full loads back to the tailor. After a few hours the sheep will start to go wild, be sure to re-tame them or they'll start to disappear. Do this right and you'll spin wool into gold.

Sheep shearing macro:

Assistant.Macros.WaitForTargetAction|30

Spinning/Looming macro:

Code: Select all

!Loop
Assistant.Macros.IfAction|50|1|1|wool
Assistant.Macros.DoubleClickTypeAction|3576|True
Assistant.Macros.WaitForTargetAction|30
Assistant.Macros.TargetTypeAction|False|4121
Assistant.Macros.PauseAction|00:00:03.3000000
Assistant.Macros.ElseAction
Assistant.Macros.DoubleClickTypeAction|3613|True
Assistant.Macros.WaitForTargetAction|30
Assistant.Macros.TargetTypeAction|False|4194
Assistant.Macros.PauseAction|00:00:00.8000000

You'll only get a max of 1.2gp per cloth selling to npcs. Better off selling as bolts or bandages to players in bulk for 1.5 to 2gp ea. Should not have any trouble getting 1.5 for either.
