Introduction/Question about Pack Animals

Hello all, I'm still pretty new to the shard and pretty rusty at UO in general. Played on Great Lakes from when the game first launched a couple years but left before t2a even came out, Good stuff so far the other free shards I've tried were quite honestly kinda irritating.
Anyway I did have a question about pack horses, I remember reading somewhere that assuming they were totally empty they would log out with there owners? So far they seem to be staying in game on me and going wild on me. Any way to get them to log out with you? Short of stabling them naturally.
