Is fencing an option at this time?

Is fencing an option at this time frame?
Ofcurse everything is an option but thats not what i mean.
I cant remember when it was nerfed/fixed and when the para hit was added. Do game mechanics allow a fencer to compete?
Same question for archery.
Thanks

Fencing and archery both sucked during '99.

With the new changes I think macing is good too. With all of the mages running around... whack em a few times and they can't run. Fencing I guess has a benefit of being fast damage and that they can be DPed.

Swords and macing are both good. The only way I would ever even throw up the idea of using fencing is on a dexer. If you go tank mage than either choose swords or macing.

First, to be straight there is no Para hit from fencing at this time correct?
Well a dexter is kind of what i had in mind.
It was my very successful template from chaos/order circia 2000'ish (i believe... its been a while)
100 fence
100 anat
100 tact
100 healing
90.2 magery
9.8 med
100 resist
100 archery
Wilth the para hit from fencing i could throw and exposion spell/purple pot and if i got another long spear hit in the end was near.
Archery was nice bc i could open pvp with a 30-40hp bolt from a excp heavy and then be on people with a spear before they new what was going on.
Combined with poisened weps and some purple pots i was a force. Always struggeled with pure mages but i could do more than hold my own against other dexers.
Sounds like this is a no go for anything besides PvM now?
thanks

no para hits, and explosion spell with no eval is pretty useless

Yeah, if you plan on fighting other players you need Eval Int to counter their Resist.

Thanks, i guess the nice thing about any tank/dexter is the weap skill is easy to change.
I could train fencing and if im gettin powned i could always switch it out for swords in less than a week.

From experience in the new patch, hvy xbows are pretty worthless in open field pvp aside from the first shot like you described, or as a finisher if you time your wep swap to a point after your fast wep timer has refreshed.. otherwise you'll be stuck waiting for 8 seconds.
I've got an archer-mage at the moment.. and usually pop a heavy shot in an opening combo.. and swap to a regular bow to have any hope of firing during a fight because the refresh timer only ticks down while standing still, and if you equip a bow before the timer has fully reset it starts over.. and 12 seconds is a looonggg time.

IMHO a kryss is the best way to go for a dexxer and if its poisoned, omg. With ample pots and trapped pouches a mage 1vs1 will not take you down, even with the lame swing timer.
Tact
Anat
heal
fence/or kat(kats are faster swing)
resist
poison/or hide
archery
chug, chug, chug, chug ftw or draw ;p

I've read that the katana is faster, with equal damage. If this is true then why go the fencing route? Not that I'm bucking fencing, I have a fencer myself, and tend to like it. I'm just saying that without the para-hit it loses it's appeal. Swords seems to have the advantage here.
I've always been fond of mace fighting, because of its dex drain, and armor damage. Both are advantageous to mages, and other warriors. The template I ran with was. . .
-Mace Fighting
-Tactics
-Anatomy
-Healing
-Resist
-Magery
-Meditation
I think that is what I had, it was too long ago that I played this game. I played during the beginning of the faction guilds, which I thought was pretty fun. Also I know I had parry at one time, but may have dropped it for one of those skills.
My weapon of choice was the War Hammer, but I also used the War Axe w/ shield.
This seemed to work good for me and I was thinking of making this template on this shard.
Tell me what you think about this template, as I am unsure if this was even it at all.
Thank you,

Swords have the kat/hally combo which is pretty much the best melee combo you can get. However, a well rounded dexxer using either a warfork or short spear will do mass damage. Slightly slower than a katana, but with much more punch. Not feasible for a tank really, but for a straight up dex, fence is still pretty badass.

Coffee what do you think of my template? I am beginning to lean more towards. . .
-Mace Fighting
-Tactics
-Anatomy
-Healing
-Resist
-50 Magery/50 Meditation
-Parry
I think maybe this is what I used to have. The magery and med to heal when bandages don't succeed, and also get around to places and out of danger if need be.
Let me know what you think.
