Don't buy a weather map. They disappear after a few hours. It's a quest item. I had a bunch and they were gone the next day.
Unless there is one that doesn't dissapear. If there is, I've never seen it.

I've been able to lock them down, through roundabout means, only at floor-level though.
I'm not sure you can receive them in a trade, and if you try to drop them on the ground or elsewhere, it will make you delete it or put it back in your pack.

Some dude was selling it on IRC and well I bought it. It's just a red map. Then it went "poof" from my bank. :'(
