War Axes and Moonglow brown bears

Hey everyone, I'm new to the server and I thought I'd point out a couple of things I may have noticed. It's been a long time, but I'm wondering if anyone else remembers when war axes (the macing weapon) could be used as both a blade and an axe? Meaning that you could shear sheep with it and then cut some lumber off of a tree. I'm not sure if that was 1999 or earlier, and I wish I had some kind of proof beyond my memory, but does anyone else remember this?
I'm also certain that in 1999 there was a large brown bear spawn just outside the exit of the zoo that lead to the graveyard, does anyone else remember them? I trained on them from 60 to 80 or so if I remember correctly.
Anyone else remember?
Also, I love the shard. It's nice to be on a T2A server that actually sticks to its goal of emulating T2A. Unlike other T2A servers I see blues out and about rather than reds camped everywhere, which is a refreshing change from some earlier servers I played. I figured since I've been enjoying the experience so much I'd try to offer some of my memory to era accuracy

Welcome to the shard! I can't say I recall either of your recollections, but that doesn't mean you're wrong. Maybe someone else can weigh in. Also, some shards may have had slightly different spawns in some areas, such as the brown bear spawn outside of Moonglow. What shard did you used to play?
One other comment...the reds are definitely out there

keep playing and you'll find them (or more likely, they'll find you), but they mostly stick to the dungeons and popular hunting spots.

I played on Atlantic. I believe my name at the time was Stansen, but I was a little kid so I don't remember much aside from what I did to hang out with my mom and dad, which means anything I think of could be as early as beta.
I distinctly remember the bears, we spent a long time hunting them as it was part of our guild's guide for leveling up weapon combat. If the spawners were different on the other servers I wouldn't know, I only played briefly on Sonoma and didn't take that as seriously.
Thanks for the welcome :)

I know during the notoriety system, pre-T2A you could chop wood with a war axe. I'm not sure when this was fixed, I just remember thinking back then, that it was strange that one of the axe weapons raised mace fighting instead of swordsmanship

Reward for anyone with information (patch notes, design notes, screenshots, etc.) leading to me being able to poison my war axe on UOSA!
But yeah, I feel like this was Pre-T2A.

That's quite possible with the war axes. I never actually used them myself, just saw other people using them. How about the bears? Did they spawn differently on other servers?

I remember those brown bears also, sure it was out of the south exit of the zoo towards the teleporters.
Around 98-99 sounds about right, use to rush home from school to train me parry with my sturdy buckler shield!
As for the war axes, never used them.

On Great Lakes brown bears were everywhere near Moonglow. Stick to paladins to gm skill here.

sounds kind of familiar to me. i could be mistaken as well, but wasnt there a point in UO (probably original release, but maybe t2a) where war axes could be poisoned like other bladed weapons?
