Newb questions.. finally broke down.

I tried to refrain from posting some newb questions as long as I could. I tried to find most of the answers through search but didn't succeed..
Refresh my memory.. bank box has unlimited weight right (meaning I can stockpile thousands of wood boards and not worry about weight ever)?
Black dye tubs on this shard come from Trophy rewards and only contain 1 charge?
Stealing in town flags you gray to that person, but calling guards doesn't insta kill them?
Found most of my other questions answered through cleaning up the cobwebs in my brain, searching the old stratics site, and this forum. Thanks for the great shard btw.. forgot how much I really liked this game, but damn I'm rusty after 9 years.

There should be a weight limit of 400 stones for all containers except bank boxes with 125 item limit, secured containers with 125 item limit, and strong boxes with 25 item limit. Derrick or a player that knows this for certain will need to verify it.

Stealing in town, if you are caught and the guards are called you will be immediately whacked. If not caught, you will go perma gray until your next death but you will only appear gray to your victim, and you will only go grey to others if they attack you. Guards cannot be called in this case.
Black dye tubs are indeed only single use.
Welcome to Second Age!

Didn't the tubs originally drop off lich or lich lords in the game? I am refering to OSi, not Second Age.

They were initially created via a client side hack which was fixed but OSI allowed the players to keep the ones that were created using this method. They were later given away as gifts. To my knowledge they never dropped on mobs.

Hmm, damn I was sure at some time they droped of Lich, swear it was a bug. Fell in line with no draw tile. Anyway was curious about what you said and did a little digging. Pulled this post off of MD about the black dye tub.
I realize this is an ancient post, but I thought I would fill in the info here for anyone still interested.
In spring of 98, there were various UO server emulators popping up. It was the beginning of player run servers and there were about 5 different programs for running your own server. One of these was called FUSE(Fallo's Ultima Server Emulator).
It was necessary to modify your uo login file in order to log into the player run servers. Fallo released a program called FUSERUN. This program loaded before UO and did the modifications to switch to player run servers and back to EA servers.
In a version of this program that Fallo released in April of 98, he included code that allowed you to change your textcolor, textfont, textfontsize... and a few easter eggs. All you had to do was type "%textcolor 999999" (hex values) and your text color would change. You could test out a lot of crazy numbers and it was the first time we saw neon colors in the game as people ran around with neon text.
One of the easter eggs Fallo included, was %dyecolor, which allowed you to change the dyetub color to any hex value. This included pitch black. You could create a new character, buy 9 tubs and a dye with your starting 100 gold - then turn them all black and sell for 500k each (500k was a lot of gold in 1998).
Well, Fallo released this program on Thursday, and by Sunday UO had patched it. The amount of black that had entered the game was out of control though, and there was very little they could really do about it. Thus, they released it later as a reward.
That's the way true black came to the world of UO.

And on that Thursday a very resourceful man could make a shit ton of money. Hey anyone got the history on when duping was officially introduced in the game? Not when it was wide spread but the first reporting of it?
Thanks for the help guys

There are reports of actions being taken against dupers from the earliest HoC chats held in mid 98 by DD and other development members. It's likely that duping existed throughout the history of UO from day 1, it just took some time for people to figure out the weaknesses in the how the game worked, and how to exploit those weaknesses.

Pulled this info up, I belive it sums up what you are looking for.
A duping (duplication) bug exploit started soon after the game's release and was not resolved for over a year. It was accomplished by placing items on the ground (most often gold and reagents), teleporting far away, and shutting down the client before arriving at the destination. The virtual world had many computers (servers) controlling the different regions, and by moving a long distance, the character would be transferred between two computers, but by shutting down the client, the character would be lost in the transfer. When the player logged back in, the server would use its last backup of the character, which included the now-duplicated items.
Another duping (duplication) bug exploit started after the release of the second age expansion. It worked taking items you had on your character at the time of a server save and after the server save was completed, placing them into your bank or home where they could stay safely for the next server restart. Going into T2A through the alter in the moonglow mage shop and continually saying recdu recsu on a standard 56k dial up connection would result in lag that would cause the server to disconnect you. It would keep your character on the account logged in, so it made the account unplayable until the server was shutdown, and restarted. Subsequently, all the items that were in the characters backpack at the original server save reappeared upon logging in after the daily server restart, along with the items you had placed in your house or bank resulting in duplicating whatever items you had chosen to have in your backpack at the time. Ariok and Someblacksmith from the baja server are quoted to have created over 500 million gold a piece, on almost ever server at the time. The bug was discovered by accident by Someblacksmith and confirmed by a GM upon paging when worried his character would be lost saying that the character was fine and would be able to be accessed the next day when the server came back up. Someblacksmith noticed that he had all the items he had on him about 20 minutes before the error occurred that he had placed in his bank, resulting in the initial knowledge of the bug. He shared it with ariok and they tried there best to keep it a secret and did successfully for a long time. Eventually someone noticed what they were doing and saw their incredible wealth, almost complete collection or rare items on the server, and housing that consisted of multiple castles and keeps that they had on the server and figured it out. It spread like wildfire and within a week the problem was fixed by EA. This bug had been successfully used to dupe until it was discovered a month prior to the release of the renaissance expansion.

Duping never really held my intrest, but I will admit exploits did lol. There was quite a few out there but the one to this day that still makes me laugh was the one that allowed ships to sail on land. When I saw that I was like WTF, I want to do that .
I will admit one exploit I used back in T2A was the removal of your backpack. Now I know that it may seem stupid to do that, because you couldn't hold anything, but it was leet for pvp. You could walk around with the best gear in game, and die with no fear of loosing any of it. The body became unlootable due to no backpack. You would be a ghost with all your gear on, get rezed and ready to go. I use to run with a mage on Cats and he would heal me. If mage went down, I soon followed. Yet it was funny seeing people get pissed over it. I did things like that, not so much to get the uperhand. No, many of us looked or tried exploits cause we wanted to walk that line. Back then you didn't think the game would last forever or that you would be hooked on it. We just wanted to push the limit and see how far we could get away with it before getting caught. For me it was a banning that changed my ways LOL.
