Demo Test Idea Thread

So I see Baitlin (the man) is the hacked demo master and can use the demo to test things.

A test I would like to see is:

If a casting and/or firebreathing pet is told to attack a target, and then told to stay, does it keep on casting/breathing fire from its position?; and

If a casting and/or firebreathing pet is told to attack a target, and is then paralysed, does it keep on casting/breathing fire from its position?; and

If a pet is told to guard Person B, then told to follow Person A, does the pet follow Person A and continue to guard Person B?

My hypothesis is yes, yes and yes - but without the mad skills of Baitlin (the man) I have no way to test this.

Perhaps Baitlin (the man) could do a test for me? :D

Anyone else have any demo test ideas?

Let's see, I once remember fooling around with dragons in the demo and from memory I have to say yes to your first two questions.

In regards to the guarding stuff:
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.game ... rd+%2B1998
I really don't have a good trainer, but...
What I do is have them "follow" the monster I want to attack, then have
them "guard" me. Now if you attack the monster they are following or it
attacks you, the pet will attack it. You can just have the pet guard you
follow you, but you take a beating sometimes. It is just a little more
complicated then that, but not much. This even works with hirelings. For
instance, hire a fighter & order it to attack a begger, you get a
response like, "I am not a murderer". But if you have the hireling guard
you & you attack the begger, the hireling will take them down w/o
complaining.
That's the test I did and that worked like that player said.
If a pet is told to guard Person B, then told to follow Person A, does the pet follow Person A and continue to guard Person B?
Here's what I did:
  • Logged on with Avatar
    Spawned Horse
    Tamed Horse
    Logged on with SecondClient
    Made Horse follow SecondClient
    Made Horse guard me (Avatar)
    SecondClient walks, horse follows
SecondClient attacked Avatar, Horse started attacking SecondClient
So, answer : yes.

Thank you Baitlin - I hereby bow down to the people's champion.

Thank you for confirming my memories from over a decade ago :)

Another step closer to being able direct the shard towards taming accuracy.

Regards,

Mens Rea.

For the first one, we clearly have this wrong on UOSA. Every time I'd try something like this, the pet would race off after the target even after being told to stay.

For the second one, my memory matches what we have on UOSA - it will continue to breathe fire, but it will not cast until it's paralysis is gone.

I agree with Mike's post above, however, if told to stay, and the combatant re-flagged with the pet, it would continue walking again. It used to be nearly impossible to get a pet to follow you if someone was repeatedly attacking it, however on UOSA this does not seem to be as much of an issue as I remember it.

On the topic of pet flagging: (something I remember from some time during t2a/uo:R)
Tamer A is a criminal and has a Dragon. Player B is an innocent. They both reside in the guard zone. Player B attacks Tamer A:

A. if the pet was guarding Tamer A, the pet and Tamer A would be guardwhacked.

B. if Tamer A commands the pet to kill the grey(attackable not crim) Player B, the pet and Tamer A would be guardwhacked.

Aye I second what Matron said on all counts.

The guard whacking would happen due to the pet and the owner having individual flags to the attacking player. While Player B has become an aggressor to Tamer A, he's still innocent to the dragon. When told to attack, the dragon will be commiting a criminal action which the tamer is responsible for.

I'm not too sure about that boys - but this is the demo test idea thread after all - is it hard to run the demo??

Not really, but doing things in the demo is hard. You start with no skills, 300 gold and it's really hard to find stuff to tame. Also not sure how to get the multiplayer running which makes it harder :(

Need to look into getting that running, as well as being able to set skills/create mobs.
