Newbie items decay in house?

Not sure if this is a bug, but I had a newbie harp that I usually kept locked down in my brick house for decoration but I chose to move it over to my small house. So I brought it over and threw it on the floor of an empty house till I could decide what to do with it. I left for 5 minutes and when I came back it was gone. I suppose ninjas could have broken in (door was locked) and stolen it but it was likely decay. Do newbie items normally decay in houses if they are not locked down?

This is correct. Not a bug. Newbied items and body parts decay (if not locked down) in 30 seconds, I believe.
