Dyeable Public House Signs
Public house signs in the form of flag-like shapes were dyeable in T2A.
EA, the absolute twatwafflers, decided to BAN people for doing this lol.
It was simple - select one of the house signs that looks like a flag, dye the sign with a dye tub.
The demo reflects this.

Re: Dyeable Public House Signs
Good eye for this one. Certain specific sign types can be dyed, and this is reflected in the demo code.
This website talks about the fact that it is still possible to dye these house signs in 2001, and that OSI had an official policy against doing so, and this patch note indicates that the problem was fixed at that time.

Haha Kaivan did you see what I did there? ~
Re: Dyeable Public House Signs
You really have to wonder what kind of reasoning went into establishing an "official policy" against players dying the signs on their houses.
Oh the horror.

They got really touchy about some of their mistakes being pointed out to them, even if they didn't matter at all. This may have been another instance of this.

Re: Dyeable Public House Signs
I did indeed. It was a quick check in the dye tub script, but it was necessary. Beyond that, it was just a matter of dating the fix itself.Mens Rea wrote:Haha Kaivan did you see what I did there? ~
I can understand their perspective on the issue, and one outstanding question that needs to be answered is this: Could you dye the house signs of other houses and/or the signs of public buildings, or could you only dye your own house sign? Depending on this answer (if it's available), the policy the OSI had might be warranted.Pac wrote:You really have to wonder what kind of reasoning went into establishing an "official policy" against players dying the signs on their houses.

Re: Dyeable Public House Signs
The demo shows that guild-colour style public house signs were able to be dyed by anybody.
Re: Dyeable Public House Signs
There was no house ownership at that time though, not even lockdowns.
Nice find

Re: Dyeable Public House Signs
BTW Kaivan - they were suspending/banning people for their own signs.
I seem to recall some kind of notice on the UO website warning people of this - which leads me to a question:
Was there a blog/forum/site that gave messages from the devs/GMs as to their policies on certain in-game issues? Have we found this? Have we looked into the contents, if it does exist?

Re: Dyeable Public House Signs
We have the GM manual, but it's unhelpful for any new info (it's an 80-page PDF and much of it is about teaching the mechanics of the game to the GMs).
Re: Dyeable Public House Signs
Lol a book teaching newbs how to run the game... wow. That's why they were bad.
Re: Dyeable Public House Signs
I got a chance to flip through the GM manual once. Was pretty fucking cool.
