More correctly, welcome to UO Second Age, the combat mechanics on this shard are broken. This has been argued time and time again. Myself and many others who played during the T2A era and actually PK'd and PVP'd back then have brought this up. Yes the Tank mage was the predominant template, however, archery and dexmonkies were not nerfed to the extent that they are on this shard.
Timers are not correct and the mini-heal was not the escape death unharmed UBER spell that it has become in Tank fights. The other mechanic that is totally inaccurate is the hally use by Tanks. The timer issues are severely tweaked, hallies were used as finishers, not arm-hit-disarm-wait two and a half seconds waiting on your wrestling timer-rearm-hit. Tank duels have come down to hally duels which is totally era inaccurate. The debate has raged for as long as this shard has been running, that's why I don't play here, hally dueling is simply not part of the T2A I remember.

Yes PvP here is a bad joke. Everyone plays using the exact same cookie cutter template.

I agree, PvP on this shard is simply a joke. I imagine that is why ALOT of people have moved on to different things and other UO shards like IPY and others that offer more diversity. On the same note UOSA doesn't advertise as being a dedicated PvP shard, just a T2A accurate shard, which is what they really strive hard to emulate.
On the most part the mechanics are good, the combat mechanics are a mix-match of BS that was thrown together from a demo of all things and the code has probably been "influenced" by a few people who may or may not have "tuned" it to their own playstyle or interpretation thereof IMO.
Overall I play for the UO nostalgia not the PvP. If I was in it for the PvP I wouldn't be playing here.
Derrick has done a good job with this shard, if it addressed the combat mechanics and got it running smooth and era accurate it would be a GREAT shard. That's just my 2 cents, not that it means anything.

I would rather have T2A accuracy than uberleet PvP mechanics. The point is that the mechanics here are NOT T2A accurate.

I believe that the real reason melee and archery is ineffective is due to connection speeds more than mechanical inaccuracies. Mini-heal healed less because people did not actually have gm magery. Tanks could get away with not maximizing their hally use because people did not actually gm their resist in era, for the most part.
As someone who played a tank heavily in T2A, the mechanics of secondage seem right to me. I precasted, cycled my hally, and dumped in all the same ways in era. I may not have had the depth of understanding about the timers and how to really time the hally the way I do now, but I still played the same way. The one thing that I did different was conceal spells though speech, which razor makes more or less useless.
However, since I played a tank in era, I mostly play templates that I didnt play during T2A such as treasure hunter and theif. Finally, I quit playing before the end of T2A so I do not have a perspective of other expansions to compare to. Just my 2 cents.

I posted this proposition in the linked thread and I'll say it here as well. If any chance to combat mechanics is to occur, then research from reliable era-sources needs to be produced. Rose even posted a list of sources that I suggested in the thread as well, and that should serve as a good body of resources to look through for this issue.

It's not the templates that suck though, it's the way people pvp too. Mages spam the hally and don't meditate so it ends up being a boring dexer-like fight because both mages have around 20 mana the whole time.
Tip to everyone: say "let's med" and med, be more era accurate and it's more fun. It takes more skill to kill someone with mana than to keep with 20 mana for 30 minutes while you spam the 50% chance-to-hit hally. Each mage uses their mana to heal and wastes time hally spamming instead of meditating.
Even Sandro would be more effective with more mana even though his playstyle is hitting often. I would rather die to Sandro after a mana dump than die slowly to his 20 ping and hally spam juking+harm and 20 mana for 30 minutes of boringness.

I blame Faust. He championed the new changes, then epic dodges playing on his changes. I think with a few tweaks it would be good.....and mini heal spam is not era accurate.
Hope this gets fixed soon, as I think it is driving away a lot of PVP people.

You are acting like the mechanics never allowed for anyone to just mash their mini heal key..

Mini spam was definitely in UO:R and there are no documented changes of spell recovery or timers.
