thr armor wont take dmg from spells i belive.
he also could have just undressed his ra into his bag and died.

not to derail your post but there is actually a spell that hurts any armor and cloth piece, and its called harm

AFAIK the only non-blessed ranger is from silver turn-ins and that isn't even newbie.
