How long do monsters remain in a house?

How long does a monster stay in a house once you lure it into the house?
Under what circumstances does that monster disappear into thin air?
These questions presuppose that the house is secure and the monster is in a locked-down area that is free from the risk of EQ/MS/EV/etc.

Its somewhere between 18-23 hours.
If anyone "targets" the monster (even with like doubleclicking on a dagger and click the monster) that refreshes the monster.

I suppose that means you have to log on daily or your balrons decay.
