Survive the Machine Gun Maze CONCLUDED (might do more later)

I've created a small maze inside of a large brick house that we would like to run an event out of. We have a bunch of "machine gun" (archers) that will constitute a machine gun turret, always ready to blast the next victim... err I mean contestant... who decides to run through the maze. Whoever makes it to the back room with the treasure chest gets the prize (which will be something on the order of 10k-25k (we'll probably start at 10k and, depending on how difficult it proves to be, add more money)... we don't have much money as of late, so if anybody would like to donate to this event's prize pool, that'd be great! :). This event boils down to a game of survival and strategy.

Rules:
Contestants
  • No earthquaking from outside the building (if this happens, you will not only get a lot of murder counts, but we also will have some "security" patrolling the entrance of the house to "take care" of you.
  • Don't bother bringing dragons--they will be promptly banned from the building.
  • Horses are allowed.
  • Teamwork is allowed (and almost certainly necessary to survive).
  • You can attempt to disable the turret by destroying the machine guns (except for EQ as described). HOWEVER, there will be a bazooka at this event to heal the machine guns and provide any other support deemed necessary (especially to prevent griefing). Hence, I don't think destroying the turret is the best strategy, but you are welcome to try :)
  • Only one of the front doors will be unlocked to gain access to the building (although you can open the other door from the inside, of course... assuming you have time).
  • We may have some high-end magic items or other desirables strewn about along the way in case anybody decides to take the time to pick them up along the maze path :)
Machine Guns...
  • Will not stand in your way (at least the first time we run this event--depending on whether it is too easy, we might have the machine guns block or place other obstacles in the way, and I will update these rules accordingly)
  • Will be armed with very high-end archery weapons, which you may freely loot if you defeat them.
We will try to do several runs (perhaps with some variation depending on how difficult it was the time before--e.g. monsters stored in the backroom that you must deal with when you get passed the turret), such that the we can include as many people who would like to participate as possible. Event times are not decided for sure as yet, but I am tentatively going to say that the first run will occur on Saturday, December 10 at 10:30pm EST.

Hope to see you there!

What are the terms regarding the belongings of those who may experience fatal failure?

Fatal failure is followed by freeing the fallen of their fortune (another task for the lone bazooka :)). It could be that the body will simply decay away, if the action is too intense and prolonged.

Don't bring anything that you would be sorry to lose.

Depending on how this first run goes, we might try a "solo" version, where everybody is locked out except one person... in that case we would return your stuff if (when?) you died... But for this first time around, your loot is fair game.

I believe that everybody involved will be available at 10:30 EST, so that's when our first run will be! House location is just a little ways down the road east from the Bloodrock Urk crossroads (72o 46'N 56o 48'E)

Thanks to all who came and participated! We enjoyed hosting it, and we hope that the participants also had a good time (we were nice and returned the loot for those who died... this time, at least :)).

Here's some of the highlights:

Looks like the machine guns were a little trigger happy, because as the bazooka came out to start the event, they immediately took action.

Image

Following a few minor technical difficulties (involving machine guns blasting themselves), the event was underway. Nimrod braved the maze, and succeeded! A couple others drew some of the fire away, and an invis item provided enough opportunity for him to do some much-needed healing (the machine guns tweaked their system to more frequently counter the invisibility after this)

Image

Azrael attempted a similar approach to Nimrod's, but the new machine gun detection algorithm proved to be far too quick for the invisibility items to provide enough time for healing.

Image

Others attempted to go through the maze, but were mowed down... at least until they started working together. A sudden rush of 3 contestants resulted in 2 out of 3 making it to the finish line. Good job Alcheyholic and Nimrod (with an assist from Snake Plisken).

Perhaps we'll try a similar event in the future. Hope everybody had a great time!

This event was not only filled with fun, but hilarity as well.

Thanks to the Bazookas for hosting a supreme gauntlet event! I appreciate the play by play post above, you are a good commentator :P
