Why? The stealing skill works just as well for you thief hunters and doesn't require a single point in it to work 100% of the time.

Just quit playing until they change it. That'll show them!

Hide -> Stealth -> Hide -> Snoop
You won't get revealed.

I think this is why people are upset in the first place. It's pretty impractical to have to hide again. What you have to really do is:
Hide -> wait 10 sec -> Stealth -> wait 10 sec -> Hide -> Snoop -> wait 10 sec -> try to steal but you can't because your target probably ran off screen by now.
(edit: Even better is when they run over you, after you hide and are immobile. You can't stealth away from the reveal.)

Until they somehow prevent/disable 'steal by type', this should never work.
If that were disabled, I'd be fine seeing this work the way you all desire.
Steal by type is the quite possibly one of the stupidest functions available on the shard.

I don't see it getting changed back. I'm just sad I can't play my thief anymore. I used to love playing my thief, even if I wasn't doing anything productive but stealthing around dungeons snooping people. Anyway, I never really used steal by type macros that much. There's not as many opportunities for them as you think, and they take up a keybind.

Seriously, Blaise. Anyone who gets boned by steal by type never took even the most rudimentary stealing precaution to begin with. You know you can put your stuff inside other bags, right? Most steal-by-type thieves (if there even is such a thing anymore), only have time to run up, open your main pack, and hit the macro. If your important things are in a bag, they steal nothing and you have 10 free seconds to have your way with them.
Thieves here are hard to play, it's just fact. They would suck less if they could snoop while stealthed, but people have been playing this game long enough to know how to not lose anything from thieves. Here's a protip: use weapons that can't be stolen (like, you know, the best weapon in the game, the halberd), and put your crap in a box that you magic lock while opened. Now you are thief-proof like the majority of players on UOSA.

There's plenty of room on the keyboard and Razor profiles really help.
No one is thief proof for the one's who really try.
I have my GT weapon, invis/reflect items buried double-deep in trapped pouches (along with my reagents, bandages and pots). The problem is the cycling, once I hit a hotkey.
I've had my bow and bandages stolen (before I started putting my bandies in the sub-pouch) in the middle of a fight, while I was on the move.
Just saying that's far too easy if all you have to do is open a pack and hit a key. Sure, I've worked around it, but it's annoying none the less.
I've lost perfectly good spears just walking through Britain before, no where near the bank.
I blame Horus.

i don't think you realize how hard it really is to execute a pro timed steal by type ( fyi don't use these hot keys normally but i have messed around with it) stealing in general it is hard to steal out of stealth and the extra 10 second delay to have to hide again the timing of it vs stealthing again just to snoop possibly and target steal something is hard enough. do you even have a thief ? ever play one? or you just WAH nerf thief's......
