I am making a thief -

I am shooting for this build:

100 Snoop
100 Steal
100 Poisoning
100 Fencing
100 Hide
100 Stealth
100 Magery?????

Bad good? Is there better alternatives to maxing Magery? Maybe LP/Magery?

Feel free to harass me for being a newb.

Most people use stealth mages. There is no one PERFECT template, but here are some of the better thieves' builds:

Basically, people stick to Hiding, Stealthing, Snooping, Stealing, Magery, Wrestling, Resisting Spells and perhaps some Tracking. Just find your own equilibrium.

Pro thieves use names like fox_phyre, GuardianKnight, Nevermore, etc etc.

Melee thieves are less prolific, and tend to be towniedexxer mace fighters. Templates include:

They may drop resist for Hiding though, as resist is not vital for town fighting but everyone loves Hiding.

Interesting, thanks again. I just remember playing thieves / seeing thieves exploiting deadly poison a lot. I can see however a Mage/Thief would be more effective in probably most cases.

Then again, the only thing I did with my thief was steal off Lich Lords, so......

I play a stealth mage thief with tracking full time. You can do a lot with it. It really depends on your play style as to how you build it. Stealth and a weapon skill are a waste imo cause u wont have a horse.

As far as poison goes, if you make a dexterity, maybe take up poisoning, but I'd personally recommend putting that skill on a pure crafter.

the matron de winter template or downs template would be my favorite and i have changed my thief's templates around a lot my second would be the pvp eval mage thief which is mage/med/resist/wrestling/eval (tankmage skills) and sub out tactics and sword s for snooping and steal. you can be a real bully with that template for sure if you work on learning how to play it. Can also stick that character in a Waring / order or chaos guild. A very very uncommon melee town thief build that i would do if i still had the room for it had to rework mine into something else would be mace/healing/tactics/steal/snoop/hide 50 anatomy 50 magery with noob regs and some cheap cures if you can trick people into flagging to you but personally i would rather use the eval mage thief in this situation with much more mana and healing abbility and paralyze at your side vs stam drain with this template but all 3 are fun to play imo depending in the situation .

Do people mostly just pvp with Thieves anymore, or do people do dungeons at all?

Yeah funny thing is I don't actually like my thief template that fox quoted, but I don't care enough to change it. I actually hate playing a thief lol.

You could make a stealth assasin character who's GM fencing/tac/anat/poison/stealth/hide/magery. Stealth up, stab, para, stab, hide. lol.
Dangerous without Healing though, so I dunno. Never made one before.

The original idea behind my build was the following:

Only getting Magery so i can recall etc...

Use thief to steal mainly, if I get into trouble I have a DPed dagger i can hopefully get a stick off and beat feet.

Mostly a defensive maneuver.

I was also thinking of stealing off LL's again ( do not know if that is even common here ) so again the DPed dagger if i absolutly need it.

But I see the arguments for a magery style thief.

If you're gonna have the skill, a dagger would only be for good RP style. You might as well rock a good kryss/warfork or something to really keep your mark on their toes.

Let me tell you a little story.......

Started here 3 years ago. Was in Cove 3 farming. Some random newbie dexer shows up and asks if he can farm with me. I didn't really care and let him hit the liches with me. When I was finally done farming and ready to leave, I tried to recall but my rune and house key were gone! The little bastard was a dexer thief and had stolen from me while we "farmed" and somehow gave my rune and key to his alt. I logged in another char and he was in my house. Don't worry....I had good security and wasn't looted.

I ended up making a simliar thief because I thought it was cool. Swords/Tactics/Healing/Anatomy/Poisoning/Snoop/Stealing. I had this char for 3 years but was too lazy to replicate the "can I farm with you" trick. Finally changed him up 2 days ago and I'm still macroing.

Moral of the story.....GM poison stinks here, and you can put stealing/snooping on any char and it will be fun.
