Less Automated PVP Events/Gold Sink

For ideas on how to make Second Age a better shard. Can it get any better? Maybe.

Less Automated PVP Events/Gold Sink

Post by RoadKill »

Lower the amount of PVP Events per day and add a feature where players can start an event for X amount of gold. (nothing new, just the current events we already have available)

It's been done on shards that are more financially broken (shards with way to much gold), they generally make the events cost 500k to have players start it up on their own (a money barrel can be found at the Event's entrance where people can toss gold in, and when it hits the required amount, the event gates open/becomes announced.) Of course the amount of gold could/should be a bit lower here since our economy is actually doing quite well.

I think it's a good way to lower the amount of automated events, while providing a consistent gold sink, and people still have the option of getting "more events" should they really want to.

It's a rough suggestion, needs polishing, but I figured I'd toss it out there.

I agree there needs to be less PVP events. The gold sink sounds like a good idea, but I'm not sure how you would be able to go about it.

I personally like this idea. Hopefully it will promote more O/C & Field Fighting, and get our event specialists out of the box..

Alternatively, why not have people pay an entrance fee to get into events?

This would cut down on some folk entering!

Just keep the CTF, DD, LMS, and Survival. Everything else is expendable, if you want to see who's the best 1v1er or 2v2er etc then go into the field and prove it. Roadkill is right these automated pvp events hold too much weight. There are enough guilds and pvpers here now to supply fights outside of the events. There should be a max of 1 pvp event each week. IE 1 1v1 tourney, 1 2v2 tourney, 1 3v3 tourney. Right now winning a pvp event doesn't hold much weight because you have one almost everyday, and also sometimes twice a day (figuring in magic 1v1). Getting a little old running around not finding anyone up until event time, then there is 30 people in the event and then after that no one is pvping anywhere across the lands.

I agree there are to many events the amount of them should be cut in half atleast.

It would also give more incentive for player ran tournaments and other types of events. Players putting on those sort of things is what will build the community and keep this server from falling apart.

I went to my first event last night, and personally thought it was really stupid for this game. Why were these events implemented in the first place?

It was definately something that brought people together when the shard was smaller, when I got here there was only about 100-150 clients on. I can only imagine what it was like for the people who were here when there was only 30-50 people. It's served it's purpose for something to do as the shard was growing and since there wasn't a lot of people on....it was something to do. Now that the shard has grown in population, I think it's time to cutback on the events. Like someone previously stated, more player ran events, other interaction besides people logging on just for the events. Although I participate in the events regularly, I've found myself cutting back on how many I enter. It's sad when you see 380 clients online, run to every bank and dungeon and don't find anyone to fight. Half hour later you got 30 pvpers on at the events.

I will admit, from past shard experience, having a tournament was a BIG fucking deal. Missing one also sucked.

BUT, with alternative ways to gain trophies...tourneys aren't SO important...to me at least.

I also think that the rares etc. you get from pvp would spur the market if they lowered the amount of events. I sort of wish they could implement daily server up rares. I remember waking up early and logging in over and over looking for Pacific to come up so I could get my rock or my bottle of cottonballs.

maybe it's just because I'm relatively poor, but I think the last thing this economy needs is a gold sink. If anything, I'd say the money supply could benefit from a little boost.

And as far as pvp events being too often, well I'm lucky if i can catch one every couple days, but thats mainly because I tend to play the late night hours.

The idea of player initiated tournaments is cool though.
