Safely buy a house?

Hey guys, first time poster. I searched the forums and could not locate any information on securely trading for a house. Every method I can think of has the same risk of someone running off with the money.

Of course, this will all be solved if my memory is incorrect and this era did indeed include the trade window with house transfers. I'm no historian, so this is quite possible, I suppose.

There is no fail proof way of trading a house.
