Treasure Hunting

I have to raise the question as to what the eff is with treasure map loot? I seem to remember much better loot than a single force pickaxe from 4 lvl 4 t-chests, Literally out of 4 chests the best item I have got was a magic reflect earrings with 6 charges, it kind of saddens me that I wasted so much mainly attended cartography macroing just for loot that is not even as good as what drops from regular liches. I was also told by a long time player of this shard that the loot used to be better and that it was nerfed for accuracy. During the T2A time period, in which I had a bard/t-hunter I seem to remember getting much better loot from lvl 4 maps. Virtually everything is accurate except it just seems the quality of the loot is extremely poor. I would like to see an improvement in the quality of treasure map loot especially on the high end. The gold return is good but that is only good for regs at this point. I would like to know that I do not regret making a t-map hunter, because I can get better loot killing liches with a silver wep.

Sounds more like bad luck. It is not uncommon for me to pull vanqs, powers, invul, and fort items from level 1 & 2 chests. The quality of the loot you get isn't based upon the level of the chest, it is completely random. The benefit of higher level chests is just that you get more items and therefore have a higher likelihood of getting a better item.
Edit: I don't remember that there were ever any changes to loot specifically coming from treasure chests. Only magic item changes as a whole.

I
HAVE heard from the vet players as well (some who have shit crap tons of reflect, tele items with lots of charges) that they did nerf the loot. I did a lvl 5 t map yesterday and pulled a ruin wep as the best

I don't do as much treasure hunting nowadays as I used to, but I do not see a big difference in the loot from 10 months ago. I would do level 4 and 5 treasure maps and get total crap in them. One change they did make was dramatically reduce the price you could sell magic items to npcs. Magic items sold for literally 3 to 5 times more than they do now. Also, chests back then used to have several pieces of non-magical clothing, that always sucked...
I think we would have to get official words from the devs to see whether the loot has actually been tweaked over the months or not. Also, people even complained before that the loot from treasure maps was a lot worse then what it was on OSI...
So, there you go. I am a vet and I am saying loot isn't much different from what it used to be on here.

I brought this up the other day to derrick. I did roughly 5-6 lvl 5 t-maps and got nothing but garbage, it all went into the trash barrel for CuB. I also agree that it took quite some time to finish off this character to do level 5 t-maps and I would rather kill blood eles or eldger gazers for magic items. Personally I never had a T-map hunter on OSI so I don't know how the loot was on the chests. I'd bet they did their research on it though.

I've mentioned this to derrick several times. The loot from tmap chests is soooo god awful, that my buddy and I literally have 176 Tmaps sitting in a pouch because they aren't worth the time to do them. It's extremely frustrating when you spend hours and hours doing a ton of maps and all you're left with is your journal being spammed with "this item will be deleted in 3 minutes".
I do want to keep good items rare, but when you identify thousands and thousands of items and the only good modifying magic property belongs to a butchers knife, there's a problem. I get much better items from killing dragons, liches, and balrons.
The key, however, is that this does not seem era accurate. I recall getting much better items during the period. However, Derrick told me that the code for tmap chests is 100% era accurate.

bump, I second Mirage's statement: monsters are better than maps
I also pulled a power katana a week ago at a simple locked chest in destard o.O

Maybe someone (not it) can check old forums on stratics or sometthing archives about people talking about loot on chests during this era just for some feedback?

I did that along time ago..
I'll try to find the thread again: It was called: Treasure Map spot and loot- or something like that
Thread was about 50 pages long on stratics, people would post the level of their map, the coordinates, and the "good" loot from it.
It was unbeleivable: people were pulling qstaffs with 50+ lightning charges on em, invulnerable reflect items.. It was actually really hard to beleive compared to what we have here, I'll go on the hunt: I know it's in the treasure hunting forum archives.

I'll have to take a look too.....I'm hoping this character isnt a epic fail.

all i could find were the archived treasure hunting forums from stratics, but the all the threads i click on have been removed from the database.. no help there
I DID however find a statement on one of the older treasure hunters guild THB (treasure hunters of britannia) stating that all magic item drops from tmaps were random.. regardless of level of map: the level of map only increases the number of magic items compared to the quality.

Then there might be something broken in the RNG that handles what is spawned in the chest. If no chest is getting at least one piece that's decent (law of averages dictate that you should get something better than ruin in every lvl3 and above chest) then it's safe to say that the spawn rate is not correct. I'm not saying a vanq for every hunt mind you, just that there should be at least one level 2-3 item in each chest. That also doesn't mean a force or power weapon, might come out as indestructible or some other high level mod.

I currently have ~25 lvl 1 maps i need to complete. I do them all tonight/tomorrow night and actually ID the armor along with the weapons and give a count of how many I got of which teir magic item. I know 25 isn't a huge sampling but it is more accurate then 1 or 2 at a time.

Not true according to an old tmap site i found thru waybackmachine.. as i said, ALL magic items are completely random, you could get durable pickaxes for a level 5, the level of the map is not a factor in the quality of the items dropped, just in the number of magics spawned..
Not saying the site I found was the holy grail, but it DOES seem to concur with the system we have here.

All magic weaps and armor in treasure chest have an equal chance to be anything regardless of the level of the chest. The Chance of a vanquishing over a ruin is extremely logarithmic, which means you will see many times more ruins than vanqs. The formula we use is derived from a drop rate table on stratics from the era.
This site shows how many magics drop in each chest, our drops are actually heavier than what's reported here:
