UO Second Age

So I'm trying to work up my fencing/tactics/healing on a hireling, but like the title says...he keeps on attacking me.
I did "all guard me" turns gray, I attack, run off screen, come back, all stop, all follow me, I attack him again,
and he keeps hitting me. I even hide and the results are the same.
Kinda feel like I'm missing something or doing something wrong. Any help will be appreciated.

create another account and have a character heal you both...obviously. I heard of other tricks...but that solution is straight forward.

"all guard me", attack, run off screen far enough so that you can still see his health bar but not him (little tricky but not too bad) if you do that he should still be flagged for attack once you return and you don't have to worry about double clicking him again and wont prompt him to attack you back
