UO is about ingenuity

So I gather there is an exploit that allows people to house kill you even when you are inside your large house, including castles, which is crazy talk.

For some reason this is not getting stopped, and I am in no way interested in getting into that flame war (particularly since I am not going to play again, so I don't care in that regard).

So, lets talk about what we do to solve this problem given the parameters we have and the capabilities given as a UO player.

The biggest issue is dying while macroing. This is a nuisance for regular players, as you would lose time and potential resources on the player macroing.

This is a catastrophe for stat loss PKs, since they are despised and always targeted. Someone taking stat loss would be totally screwed trying to macro inside a house.

So how do we fix it? Lets talk about it. I already have a solution. Buy a ton of boats, and wall off a huge part of the sea. Macro in the middle of them with another boat. Healer bot and a HP check would be sufficient to deal with any water eles or sea serpents that might arise. You could actually make the healer bot an archer and attack the nearest grey creature.

How would you solve this?

Macro with something you can do Hidden.

If the house killas want to Detect Hidden on every spot in a house to find you then kill you, then they deserve the kill...

Get a small house for macroing, can't be killed in the small houses. Problem solved.

I've already solved this problem for myself. I am someone who has 4 tower's and I use them alot! So my solution is to never go AFK in any of my towers, instead, I simply place a small house nearby and use that to go afk in.

A few nights ago, I was in my tower attended, and about 9 or 10 GY pvp'ers came by to have a visit. They could not figure out how to use this bug properly much less coordinate an effort to kill me with it. If they did possess those skills, I would have simply done one of the following...

Precast Greater Heal and constantly move around the tower. This will allow you to dodge most AOE attacks that may be coming your way. Once the attackers have decided they have wasted enough regs, they will probably move on.

Secondly, you can simply recall out.

Thirdly, you can simply log out.

Lastly, keep 6 or 7 small animals locked down in your house. when you come under siege from LOS attackers, simply stand near your animals. This will cause you to only take a small fraction of the total damage from the AOE spell cast. (This works on the mechanic that AOE spells such as Chain Lightning do reduced damage when cast on multiple targets)

Or you could be like LightShade, throw a hissy fit and quit the shard and poop yourself.

What's wrong with pooping yourself?

I log out and no one can kill me....except stalkers...real life stalkers. I can't log out from the people chasing me.

Best of Luck to you all, for that matter. It was fun while it lasted. Hope you all find smooth trails and a wind at your back.

Its true that the LOS is not an issue in a small house, but some macroing is not safe in a small. If you are a stat-loss red, for example, and are trying to raise magery/resist, you hit yourself with damaging spells and, if someone was patient, they can weaken you sufficiently with earthquake spells such that you will inadvertently kill yourself with your own spells. In a keep or castle, you would be out of earthquake range and therefor safe from this tactic.

Now, as far as ingenuity, I believe that having a few healers healing your stat-loss red would make it quite a bit more difficult for someone to earthquake/kill you. Furthermore, adding some health checks in your macro (before casting, after casting while targeting, etc) would even compound that difficulty.

only way to macro magery/resist without eq death is boats. anyone who macros their stat in a small deserves a second dose of stat.

Is it correct that L-Shapes, Patios and Large Bricks are also 'safe' from this issue?

I've not read much of the related threads.

Solution: Get organized in a protected home. OR Set up a smaller house to recall to and gate in supplies for skills that you are training.
