Why do players here sell ingots for less then the NPC ??

The NPC ingot prices are 9gp in Delucia. I assume the same in each town?
But what i don't understand is why the player sells for so much less? Everything else is sold for more, such as regs, and wood. And even the player selliing price of wood is a bit low, but at least more then the NPC price of 3gp.

So i really don't understand why a private shards player selling prices are so low for bulk items? I think the number of people here are large enough to mimic the usual selling prices of the era...which was selling ingots for much more. Is it because of the use of IRC which influences the market prices?

For me it's too easy to spawn the npcs up to 999 if I wanted to so the players need to create some reason to buy from them rather than the npcs. Wood especially I never pay more than 3gp per because I know I could just take a day and spawn them up to 999 like I did when I was macroing carpentry. If given the choice of spending the same price to npcs vs players I'd be more likely to buy from the npcs because there's no chance of scamming or being on someone elses time table to meet up and exchange. Plus everyone knows that as a new player a good way to get gold is to mine so there is lots of different people trying to sell iron which creates competition and lowers the price.

Not to mention the demand is "low". Lots of people want ingots and boards, but the NPCs can provide more than enough for everyone once they are spawned up to 999. On OSI, even with vendors spawned up, it wasn't enough for everyone at times

Suggestion: Considering that the population here is a fraction of that of OSI, maximum vendor supply could be changed to reflect that fraction. This would spur P2P interaction.

The potential pitfall of this would be inflation. The money which goes to NPCs is a good way of keeping prices stable. However, the difficulty of buying goods from NPCs would be reminiscent of OSI...

I do not believe player selling prices (or NPC prices) should be based on the population, but rather should be based on the "era" (second age). In fact...having a less populated shard is to the advantage of the player obtaining gold: there is less competition thus the ability to get more gold. Remember all the crys about "campers"? And osi eventually increasing the monster spawn in future expansion so much...it just about made the solo hunter worthless (another reason second age was better). The only difference i can visually see in this game is that the average player here in 2009 is much more knowledgeable about the game, and we have Razor. Which benefits both the buyer and the seller.

But, as someone mentioned before in another post, it could take all day to get your few k resources by using this method of buying from the npc. When you could much more easily buyout a player venders resources in fewer trips :)
