Its my opinion that the population isnt large enough for such a fast decay rate. A month break from a freeshard is not uncommon for most.

If you're going to take that long of a break then it's more than likely you know about it before hand and can make the effort to log in 3 times in that month. that's not exactly asking much for you to keep all your items. also if you're going to take a long break then you could always put your most valuable items in your bank. 30 days is hand holding UO. how hard is it to ask a buddy to refresh your house while you were away from the game? to me i don't see how server size affects house decays. the game should coddle you because there's less people? it's of already too easy here. too easy to find places to hunt without running into huge groups of people already there like you may have on osi back in the day. it's easier to get regs because you don't have a whole server full of people sharing just a handful of town npcs. it's easier to find safe mining and lumberjacking. we have it too good as it is. we want an accurate server then accurate houses we should have as well. if you want that awesome location or house you worked so hard to get then you have to deserve and earn it by staying dedicated enough to spend 1 whole minute very 10 days double clicking a shortcut. typing a short password. logging in to your char that you have logged at the house and double clicking the damn sign. omigosh is that too much to ask of people? also how much did housing decay timers change during the wonderfully wretched trammy days? how long is it now? 5 days? you ppl want an accurate server to have a timer that has only gotten SHORTER as the game has gotten worse and strayed farther and farther from the t2a era? give me a break.

It's pretty hard to read that chart you posted, but you'll find that house locksowns and secures are 100% accurate

so what's the word on this? should i put up another poll? seems silly since we've said time and time again that it doesn't matter how popular the idea is if it's not accurate it's not getting put in. Shouldn't it be true that if it's not accurate then it's not staying in?

I think we have decided to change the decay time, just not sure when.
When we opened, we had a 90 day house decay, about 6 months ago, we moved them down to 30. At that time all houses were grandfathered on their decay times until refreshed.

rocksinhead wrote:where was all this support when I posted the poll about dropping the timer on houses? mostly all i heard was ppl crying saying i was just trying to scavenge other peoples stuff and who cares if it's accurate i dont want to have to worry about it cause logging in 3 times in a month is hard. even with the 30 day limit I lost a 3 room house with a grandfathered secure container after moving into my tower and i STILL want an accurate system put into place.
truth. i believe i brought this issue up as well a while back.. 10 days idoc is the way to go

Yeah I think as long as you do what you did last time, it would be a great update. Keep all houses 'grandfathered in' for 30 days until next refreshed, then put it to the proper one. It's fair and with enough time (30 days max) all houses will be gone or on the new schedule

Well to be fair, I think at least before this goes into place (if it does) there should be a stickied post about it and a motd

I have never played uo before recently but after reading the forums and wikis alot and also reading the description of what this shard wants to be or strives to be. (which by the way great work Derrick its fantastic). This topic shouldnt even be a discussion, if the way it was had a 10 day idoc then it should be a 10 day idoc here, its simply the way it was....yet I was all excited to get some housing in, now I'm worried about losing it on my yearly vacations :)

Yeah it should definitely be stickied and motd. possibly even give the person a message warning them that it will have a new timer when they refresh that first time from the 30 to the 10.

Aye, this is how we did it last time. You'll have the option not to refresh (and therefore not change the decay rate) when you click the sign

We'll be changing the house decay rate on shard restart.
This will not take effect until the house is refreshed, and you will receive a warning at that time.
This does not put anyone's house in jeopardy of immediate decay unless that's the state it's currently in.
