My experience so far with min bids is that people mentally see it as too high no matter what. By just leaving it open to bid, it starts a bid war and people think they will win it cheaper, but end up spending exactly what you want. If the item is worth the price.
Minimum bids seem to actually hurt most of the time. You end up bumping a thread over and over.
