How is the gains on the shard?

I want to start up on this shard, but as all of you I've been playing the game since '97 - so I kinda hate to make chars all over again.
So i am wondering how good gains on skills here are? How is it to make a bard? several weeks/months or?
Also if someone have a lot of funds and like to help new people on their feet, please tell me. Always like a helping hand. Will start tonite, making my favorite toon, a bard

With the appropriate funds and macroing you could have a bard together within a week.
Welcome aboard.

Seek out #new or the NEW guild if you wish for handouts as a new player, most other players will not.

I would say bard = lightning fast. To echo the other comment, once you have lots of gld you can pretty much macro anything and GM in a few days - not sure what Rat Tail John is having trouble with.
Do a search on the forums for pretty much any skill you wish to GM and you will find extensive, tested, and proven methods, complete with razor macros.
Since joining the shard 4 months ago, I've GM'd Magery 3x, Macing 2x, Meditation 2x, Hiding, Stealing, Music, Provo, eval, snoop, and tactics..... all but the first time for magery and provo was under 3 days. If you're a lite player it can be done in only twice that time. The MOST time IMO is spent farming to fund your skills. There are 2/3 spots I would recommend for someone just starting out on this shard, but they are patroled by PK's so if your "new" to UO in general (cant remember if you said that or not) you will want to read and practice the art of escape/recall. PM me if you want my "money making spots" (they're not really a secret, but ones I've made over 750,000 with medium farming time)
The one that I'm currently gaining very slowly in is resist, but than again, I haven't really researched it fully on the forums.
Good luck and welcome!

I'm not sure what that means #new? But ill try get up to speed on my own. I hate begging for cash, so ill just need to get my provocation to and music up fast, then i can at least kill some earth elements and such, gain cash for magery, which is the consumption for a new player like me.
Sound very nice Keelonzo, cant wait to get started!
Thanks for the reply guys .. see you all soon!
NOTE: How do i add rep to you guys with the helpful posts? =)

It takes one night to reach 100 music and 70 provocation from zero. Start with 50 magery and 50 medi or resist. You're ready for mid end monsters on the second day.

As someone who never macro'd back in the day (7x GM characters without macroing is true love), I'd say the gains on this shard are lightening fast if you macro.
