I only ask because I sent Derrick an email a few days ago but he didnt reply, so wondered if he was inactive or on holiday or something.

It's a free service, so you can't expect instant responses to things like this even when staff isn't on vacation. That said, the responses, etc., are usually quite fast and useful.

In my personal experiences ive found that it was far more efficient to just page in-game for staff assistance, emailing them or pm'ing them here on the forums seems to take a bit for the response to come back. Ive not yet setup IRC so im not sure if thatd be more hasty than paging from in-game

Derrick has been busy IRL and has not had much time for UOSA.
UOSA; however, thrives when we (staff) stay out of the hair of players since we have achieved, almost entirely, our goal of era accuracy.
We appreciate any donations as they help offset the cost of running the shard.

We better start a second shard then, before you guys are out of voluntary work to do.

Still a lot of work left to do if you ask me.
- Comat Timer
- AI, such as pathfinding
- Era accurate spawn system
- Critical era accurate bug features such as the axis energy vortex that should not be dispelled
Etc... all sorts of projects that are critical components of this era that impact it quite drastically.

I am actually wanting to contact Derrick to buy/rent a 2nd age shard off him. There are half a dozen of my friends that I have gamed with since 1997 in UO, right up until present day. We want to go back and savour the nostalgia of playing in the 2nd age again. However we have a guild of 300 people, many of who want to try it out for the very first time.
I don't want to bring them to this 2nd age shard (even though I know it to be brilliant) it is no place for people who have never even seen the UO UI. I did think to create a server myself, but I have neither the time nor the expertise. If I can get Derrick to sell/rent me a server (set up to this shards specs/accuracy) and can nurture some of these players on a private server, away from all those nasty PK's

then they may experience what we did way back in 1997. I still rate UO to be the best MMO of all time, and I want these guys to savour it too.
If this is just a pipe dream, and you think Derrick would not be up for this, then let me know. If however he (or whoever is the expertise behind setting up the shard) was willing to set up and rent/sell a private shard, then no doubt the money would help finance the running of this shard. And after nurturing my guild in the ways of UO, if they want to play it on a competitive level, we can all come to this shard.

It is fairly easy to kick off a RunUO setup and get your friends logging in to check things out freely. However, the code is so customized here to meet the specific goals, it wouldn't be the same. Furthermore, I find it highly improbable that Derrick would part with any/all of the work that has been done here. I asked him once in the past if I could get a copy of the basics (no acct/item saves) to play around with at home. That was a long time back, but was also denied.
Your best bet would be to offer him a huge chunk of coin to buy the server outright, then you can do whatever you want with it.

It's unlikely that Derrick will sell or rent you the UOSA server code. As a GM who has spent nearly 5 years helping with the development and maintenance of UOSA, I've only seen small fragments of the code myself. Of course, don't let my experiences stop you from asking.
