Aaahhhh! Old School UO...

Morning coffee and a bit of mining before I start my day. Got to get them ingots if I'm going to GM my Smith eh? hehe

I've been working this out of the way little place. I've only run into one PK there so far. I had just wrapped up my rounds for the morning...950-odd Iron...20-40ish other colors..."let's make it an even 1000 iron before quitting..." suddenly he was beside me..."awww" I said. He just smiled " " ...fair enough. He didn't kill my horse, which always earns points with me and did make 3 failed rez attempts before saying "fax it" and recalling out with all my ingots. I let the place rest a few days...till this morning.

Same time...same place.

I got one round in and, being quick study I am, dumped my half load at home rather than making the usual 2 rounds, and came back. Sure enough not long after I got back and began digging there he was beside me. I was expecting him this time...almost looking forward to it.

He hit me a couple times with a staff, "you again eh?" I said.
"Heh" steps back, starts casting.
"figured I'd see you again...ooOooOo"

He quickly loots me, gates it all, come back through, dispels.
He says "I'll rez you in a sec" and meditates.
After I come to I tell him "as long as you keep rezzing me and not killing my horse I'll keep mining here"
"you want a gate back to brit bank?"
"naa...thx tho". Then, "you just missed my 1k ingot load"
"heh" he says.
"cya next time?"
"Kal Ort Por"

I look forward to it...the guy is obviously a stealth/Mace/Mage PK, probably geared specifically towards miners...style, technique...daresay I was impressed by this guys method of pk'ing a miner!!

I kind of like the idea of my Miner having an "arch-enemy" to contend with.

It would be interesting if you had a tank-mage with the same name. Dress like the miner, carry a shovel, and set the trap. Surprise!

Macing makes a lot of sense as miners dont tend to carry potions and also tend to have low dex...

I find mining to be a pretty boring activity and it was kind of cool going out knowing I stood a chance of running into him...and not just any random PK...know what I mean?

Yea thats what impressed me...definately had it worked out. Probably even waited till I dug for a few to get loaded up on ore before he attacked hehe

Better that than killing my 2 newbie friends over and over near Moonglow; which is unfortunately happening lots...

Funny how *I* was never killed there. Oh well.

Stories like these make UO the great game that it is. Yea there's lot's of griefing going on in an open game like UO, but there's also the good mannered PK'ing that you just won't find anywhere else. Too bad modern MMOs just won't ever again have anything like totally open PvP outside of guard zones along with full item loot, which are IMO the 2 main elements that make UO such an adrenaline rush.

These pks are getting soft.
