Skeletons being poisoned

I'm not too sure on the internal game mechanics of barding. For example does it apply any of my character attributes to the unsuspecting bard targets.
I was in the southern jungles and successfully convinced a large serpent to attack a skeleton. I noticed that almost immediately the skeleton suffered from poison. Given the lack of relevant body tissues and a circulatory system, I'm not sure he was intended to suffer this irritation.
In my view a skeleton should be rather unaffected by the venomous poisoning of a reptile.
Thanks!
Attila
