UO Second Age

So obviously there are a bunch of uniques up for sale now that Cave's place fell. I was wondering what people value the ability to choose your unique is over purchasing a previously acquired one. Technically, those items are worth 1000 silver, but if I had 1000 silver to spend, I would rather get a unique item of my choosing through the silver system than spend it on a random unique flask or something like that (unless the unique was something I really liked, like Silverfoot's death vortex, for example). So, what is the silver value of that ability to choose? Obviously any item is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. I'm just looking for a general opinion. Random thought I had yesterday.

One one end, choosing your item is worth much more, but highly unobtainable because of the types of people who have the massed up silver. ( you cannot deal with a silver dealer. they think their silver is worth more every minute that they own it)

On the other end, getting a unique item is in itself just as good.

Uniques are only worth as much as the item itself. Meaning, if you have a piece that looks cool and is highly interesting to see or very large, you have an item that could be worth more than the silver value itself. Keep in mind that you own something extremely cool that no one else can ever have. *example of high end* - Large statues, that cannon, all of the things from sebben's tower. ie. sarcophagus, blood pentagram, head choppy thingy.

You actually do lose value in an item when it is just a quest reward or contest reward. Most will want to value their item the same as a unique or near that range. They are way off the mark. You would be a fool to pay even half of the value of silver uniques on a server birth or quest item. That is unless you just really want it and have no intention to sell.

Man, just my two cents but I think rares are retarded.... Unless its a hued mask or neon sandals. I just ne'er saw the point in putting rares on display.

Status symbol like a diamond rolex or a hued mask. Its pretty much the same. You're just showing people you got it like that. Plus...the shard design always really encourage hoarding. Items, gold, rares, housing, pvp ego...it is all here to be hoarded and coveted by others.
