Yeah, UO was a hit in Japan back in the day. I'm guessing none of their freeshards these days have anything remotely resembling era-accuracy 
I tried to recruit some chinese players, but they've never even heard of UO. "Is it like World of Warcraft?" I try to explain to them that it was the predecessor to ALL of that, but then they just reply that they don't want to play such an old game. Taiwanese definitely know it though.

I met 4 Japanese players at an ACE tower IDOC. They gave me the timer and everything, saying they only wanted the placement. Xynosis helped them with that, as did I at another property they had IDOC. Nice guys.
