Lockpicking

Was it always this hard to GM lockpick from 95? I seem to remember a fair number of lockpickers and the rate at which you gain skill from 95 on is CRAZY considering the way you have to GM it. I remember a lot of ppl doing level 5 maps and its obviously required to do those.

Just wondering :)

Took me about 2 months of picking 3-4 chests, 2-3 times a day..
I went fairly slow while trying to gain it, but yes- I've asked Derrick numerous times if it was "stuck" or something- but it's probably the slowest skill in game.. Mainly because it can't be macro'd or anything, and requires travelling to dungeons etc..
On the upside I've made over 2 mil with my LP'er.. about 500k alone just from the 95-100 skill gain era.. Thats ignoring TMAPS and the fact that the skill is on my 7xTamer ;D
Mind you this was before the chest loot was "toned down" (now they seem to have much less gems- which is 1/2 the money you get from them)

ok. Seems rather silly though. Im at 95.5 and I can pick 10-12 chests without a skill gain. I have them all marked and the respawn is slow. This is going to take me weeks and that just seems silly to me given the skill gain rate on all of the other skills..

23 consecutive level 4 chests without a skill gain and Im at 95.5. There is simply no way this is correct.

There are a few new level 4 chests out there as of a few minutes ago.

Rly? So was this like a super-spontaneous decision addin' sum new chests or has it been planned for sum time?

I believe he just updated the spawn a little. Not all of the spots were spawning.

Sorry to bring this up again, but I truly believe that the current rate at which we are experiencing lockpick skill gain is too slow. I have picked as many as 46 level 3 and 4 chests without a skill gain at only 97.3 skill. Other LPers have told me that they gain only .1 every 7 runs of 20-25 chests after 98 skill! At this rate it could literally take several months or more to go from 95-100 LP and I don't believe it took that long on OSI. I found this in an update from January 2000, and I know our target it Sept-Nov 1999 but that is obviously flexible given that some things on the shard are from later patches:

Skill and Stat Advancement Changes
Advancement in “non-difficulty” based skills at higher levels and advancement in stats will be improved. The effect of this change will result in fewer required uses of the skill to advance it at high levels and better, more evenly curved stat gains.

The following skills will be affected by the modification to skill advancement:
Anatomy
Animal Lore
Item Identification
Arms Lore
Begging
Evaluate Intelligence
Spirit Speak
Hiding
Tracking
Camping
Cooking
Musicianship
Lockpicking
Mining
Lumberjacking
Peacemaking
Provocation
Enticement
Cartography
Fishing
Stat advancement will now raise at a more constant, consistent rate. All skills will raise their appropriate stats (including combat skills) and you will be able to gain stats consistently regardless of the level of the skill, rather than only when reaching a high level in that skill.

Each skill will raise its appropriate stats. For skills that raise multiple stats, some stats are weighted more heavily than others. Therefore, stat gains from skills such as these will be based on how much weight is given to the individual stats. For instance, Anatomy will raise INT more often, though it still has a chance to raise STR and DEX.

Only 19 GM lockpickers on the shard in over a year of existence.

I'm definitely not looking forward to working mine...

How much lockpicking / carto do you need for level 4 tmaps?

91/91 or thereabouts, I believe. The easily macroable part, you can have it done in a couple of days.

Again, if anyone needs lockpicks I sell them at the cheapest price on the shard. I can also provide the 50-75-and-GM boxes you need to macro up into the 90's. I will provide these boxes for free with a small deposit that you will get back with the return of the boxes.

And if you like saving wands for sale, you can replace wrestling with Item ID or have a mule with the skill. Treasure maps will yield quite a number of magic items, and you'll burn wands very quickly.
