A couple of questions.

Greetings,

So I've just signed up and created a blacksmith and I had a couple of questions. I intend to make a GM smith and do my thing selling my wares. I'm a hard core smith and I enjoy crafting, so is there demand for weapons and armor on the server? Or do people just make crafting mules to get there equipment?

I was a smith from beta till about 2001 before I left the game. Generally speaking, I prefer to sell stuff person to person. I never liked vendors much, they take the human interaction out of the game completely. I enjoyed standing around the forge and serving customers.

Basically I just want to see if there is a demand for a smith. I don't want to waste all that time working my way to GM only to have no one to sell my goods to. It doesn't make much sense.

Anyway, thanks in advance for your reply. I feel like such a n00b :)

take a wander around the player vendor forums under trade heading
youl see theres a lot of players making good money selling craftables.
There are players who make their own mules but they are not the majority.
You will probably have no problem being a crafter here. Face to face standing at the forge may be harder unless you do it long time and people get to recognizing you. I suggest you advertise in the trade fourm when you get going.

I realize being a stand around smith maybe difficult if the server population is low (or people do a ton of macroing) but I used to do little but stand around the forge in Britain or Trinsic for 8-10 hours at a time, only leaving to secure more raw materials back in the day. I can wait.

Is there a general price guide around for weapons and armor? I have no idea what to sell things at really. Kind of rusty. :(

I haven't had any luck finding a "working" smith in Brit in the past month or so. If that is what you enjoy, go for it. I would personally be more inclined to purchase face to face at a higher cost if it meant I could also count on that person to be around from time to time to do repairs. :) Utilizing the Trade forums and IRC would probably garner some interest from others as well.

I have held off on creating a smith alt/mule to do repairs on my growing pile of "worn" gear, and would love to see you persue this. Shoot me a PM if you need a hand getting started up here or what-have-you.

Honestly, the market for smiths if VERY competitive, but if you spend the time to make customers happy and have good prices then I'm sure you could find your place in the market. I know lots of people craft there own items, but there will always been an influx of new players, and lazy vets who require smith items.

I run a smith vendor at yew gate (directly to right, yeay advertising) my prices are pretty standard if not lower than most.
