Negative Karma from killing evil mages?

I killed an evil (red name) mage at the tower west of Trinsic and lost "a good amount" of karma (was Admirable at the time).
This can't be right.

Did you provoke them? You always lose karma when you provoke a human

Incorrect. Or if it is correct, its not implemented. I provoke evil mages all day while I pick their level 4 chests

Well thats odd, I could be wrong, but I thought that provoking human-type npcs or cutting up any human-type body should give you negative karma.

Fixed, murderous NPC's will not have positive karma

It's probably because those are NPC Vendor Mages that are red for Red-player use... they aren't actually EVIL mages.
