with this gone, how can a red now tell his short term counts to prevent rezing in stat loss? do we physically have to keep count now how many people have been killed multiplied by the hours of macroing? any guidance would be great. thanks!

The word phrases will tell you each situation that you are currently in. I kind of wish perma red and the color coding for the words would be put in place, but I can live with just the perma red addition.
