Whats the deal with the Hedge maze?

There was a quest during T2A (or around) that awarded some necro-reg rares and had possesed monsters in the hedge maze. I noticed (as well as others) that there is an increased number of Balrons in there today, and some have new names "The Dark Father" or something similar...
Am I missing something?
