Unattended macroing is allowed from shore, but not in deep water.

Most of the time when we catch someone unattended in deep water though, they have already been killed by a sea serpent.

If someone has a good Razor macro for unattended deep sea fishing, I'd be impressed. Sea serpents pretty much force you to observe.

Try to fish while hidden. Works wonders.

A serpent reveals you though

On a similar topic, I am wondering if there are any changes in the rules for catching Sea Serpents, Treasure Maps, Trophy Fish, and nets on this server.

Since I hit 80 skill I have essentially been waking up and fishing for 12 hours straight for two days in the middle of the ocean and have yet to catch anything but fish and shoes. Am I just having a streak of bad luck ?

I recall when I originally played back in 99' I was constantly getting attacked right at around 80 skill and now I can't pull up a serpent while trying. Skill is at 94.3 and I did not use the 8x8 trick to get there. I would think in over 2000 casts I would have caught SOMETHING other than standard fish and boots.

Can anyone clue me in if I am missing something in my understanding of when I should start catching things other than fish and shoes ? :)

i know this sounds silly but, make sure you are in the DEEP sea, dark dark blue waters, that is only place you can get sea serpents and deep sea serpents, btw, you have to be lik 98 or higher to get deep sea serpents i think, least that's when i started getting them, and 9/10 times the deep sea serpents dropped sos's. the sea serpents can be pulled up at 80 and higher i think, but they will never drop sos's, just t-maps, but not common as deep sea serpents drop sos's. hope this helps.

I have finally started catching them, though still a very very low frequency. :)
Essentially have a friend with 86 fishing out here doing it with me and we fish up maybe one every 4 or so hours. So it must just be my bad luck.

Was wondering about the dark water though, for some reason all water is the same color regardless of where I am, and I had remembered dark water. Is there a check box or effect somewhere in the client I have overlooked that disables the effect of water depth ? :) Or is it possible that I have updated my client to far and that was removed ?

Thanks for the quick response before.

I think the darkness of the water is best visible on the radar.

I had a GM fisherman at one point and abandoned it because the rate of pulling up serpents and MiBs was extremely low. Why would someone fish for 2-4 hours for the chance to pull up 1 MiB?

Kinda ridiculous.

I think the 'deep water' is essentially everywhere a few squares off of land as indicated by your map/radar. I've pulled up deep sea serpents in the Britain harbor even, so you don't have to go too far.

I saw a good number of sea serpents starting at 80, but did not see deep sea serpents at all until GM. The rate does seem a bit slow on MIBs, but there's a good chance it's just because I'm impatient. I'd say Storm's estimate of 1 MIB for 2-4 hours does seem pretty accurate though. I've pretty much abandoned my GM fisherman as well. 2K and a pile of ruin weapons just isn't effective use of time, especially when you consider the amount of sailing you have to do in addition to fishing up the MIB in the first place.

Oh well, at least you get some nice boxes and paintings out of it.

Are Trophy Fish and Nets out of era? I don't recall seeing either so far.

They are. Mountable fish are way more out of era than Nets though.

Ayep. Too bad too, loved special fishing nets, added a whole new element to fishing.

They were added right around August 5th of 2000 and not even announced in the patch, just a few months late. :(

I have actually managed a razor macro that can fish one spot dry then drive(the boat) to another, and just keep going, and if a see serpent attacks you it heals and casts an e-bolt back, it only takes like 5 min to set up on a level 70 magery gm fisher.

one MIB every four hours i think was exactly the rate for a GM fisher on OSI, so its accurate, but I agree- for a freeshard it should be lowered so the people who enjoy fishing them up can have more fun playing..
Also if you haven't noticed ( i'm pretty sure) the drop rate of t-maps from monsters and chests has lowered as well, or at least it seems like it. =p
