With the new change to weapon speed coming up (reducing the Katana to 48), which weapon would you prefer? Which one do you think would win in a fight?

I use a mage because I don't suck at pvp.

I think just about everything we have besides the stratics page that's in question points towards the katana being a speed of 48.

Interestingly, the 24 times per minute comes out to exactly 2.5 secs/swing, which further defends the 0.25 sec granularity of the combat swing timer as well, which is also refreshing.

Using:
(33 dex+100)(58 speed)(60 seconds)/ 15000=24 <-- Should equal 30 BTW. Guess this person wasn't too good at simple arithmetic.

(200)(48)(60)/15000 = X x5
(200)(53)(60)/15000 = X x3

38.4 Swings/Minute (for 100 dex) for the Katana @ a minimum of 192 damage if every hit lands
42.4 Swings/Minute for the Kryss @ 127 damage

While it was poorly worded, I think the point that he was trying to make is that he did some simple testing and found that at 33 stamina he swung 24 times with a katana. I'm guessing he's saying that the particular equation that gives a result of 24 with a speed of 58 would clearly be impossible, and thus incorrect, when compared with the empirical testing results. More appropriately, an elaboration on the subject explains the results much better:

Given a known result of 24 swings per minute at 33 dexterity, the input speed for the equation would necessarily need to be approximately 45-47 as shown by the equations: 60 / (15000 / ((100 + 33) * 45)) = 23.94 swings and 60 / (15000 / ((100 + 33) * 48)) = 25.004 swings. If a speed of 58 is applied in the equation we receive the results: 60 / (15000 / ((100 + 33) * 45)) = 30.856 swings which is 25% faster than the observed data. Thus, the recorded speed of 58 for a katana is too fast, and a speed of 46 is the ideal speed to replicate the observed results.

A popularity test is not going to prove your point.

It seems that 48 is era accurate so it should happen for sure.

Anyone know what the kryss' speed is rated at?

dout it .. i can't see why seeing the problem is over only the of kat. kryss will now me faster by 5 points i belive (meaning kat. swing speed will be decreased) and kryss will will remain the same

I doubt it. The main issue was that many believed the katana speed rating listed at stratics was incorrect. There has really been nothing (patch notes or memory) to lead anyone to believe any other weapon was also listed incorrectly. Chances are, if anything, this was merely a typo on stratics part.
