UO Second Age

Back when i played on GL I had a Treasure Hunter, now while reading the Wiki the information there and my memory are conflicting.
After lockpicking a chest (dungeon or dugup) I would stand away and use Telekinesis to disarm the trap.
Is this still viable?

Yes, you lockpick the chest and then step away a few tiles and use telekinesis. Then you may loot the chest. (:
