Change of Server Duels

Presently we have two types of duels in the normal rotation:

1) Tank Mage Duel Set 
One specifically designed to prop up a 25 dex magery user by excluding potions except one.  As evidenced by the lack of cure potions, poison weapons and the presence of total fresh potions.  

NO CHANGES PROPOSED HERE

2) All Magic, All Potions
This is no-holds barred, item based, if you got 90k gp for a 25+ Vanq weapon with gouls touch You’ll Win tourney.  

*This is a 'bank account' tourny and has little to do with skills.

My suggestion: Please add the following to the normal schedule:

Code: Select all

Reagents and Player Crafted Items Only Rule Set.

If a player can craft it (GM Armor, Weapons, Potions, and Poison Weapons) then it is usable along with reagents.  (This also means no O/C Shields.  All items must be non magic.)

*This type of duel rule set would be a PURE SKILL BASED one.  


It eliminates the effect of scarce magic items and is a better reflection of combat skills

I certainly would like to see this type of tourny added, especially since it was the type of rule set we'd use on Fire Isle in Chessy during 1999. I think the guild was LOR but I'm not for sure.

Maybe in other shards and even other duel tournies on Chessy a rule set similar to #1 above was used. I never saw one in era using #2.

The set I described above is what we always used on Fire Isle.

Quite the biased post. This is a mage era, that is well known, mages tend to have the advantage.

You are requesting (for the billionth time) that potions always be available, so your dexxer returns to full health (along with heal pots LOL) every 15 seconds. In this situation, 1v1, there is absolutely nothing a mage can. Literally nothing. A dexxer stands a chance against a mage with the standard duel rules (these have been standard for what, 10+ years? certainly weren't made up here)

Not to mention, medi dexxer vs medi dexxer would literally never end.

Hemp, I actually played both character sets during T2A. The truth is, in close order combat, a dexer wins unless the rules are nerfed. Also, in town a dexer wins. This is what the era was like. Tank mage were great on surprise attacks and in groups as well as against characters with low resist or poor player tactics.

Each had their own beneficial situation.

But anyway, if you read my post, I am not requesting to eliminate the tank mage rule set tournies. You can play that rule set all you want, week after week. It's A-OK with me and when I'm done with my mules, I'll bring out my tank mages to fight too.

The point of my post is that I'm just proposing that the alternative to the tank mage rule set isn't just a 'who has the bigger bank account, GM Fisher, GM Treasure Hunter' type of tourny.

Perhaps I could have proposed this change without the dripping comments but that's too late.

In short, I'd like to see the All Magic, All Potion Saturday Tourny be changed to a rule set like I've suggested or be alternated from week to week with the new rule set.

What other constructive ideas are out there?

Sorry, I completely misread/misunderstood. You mean to change the alternative tourneys (magics etc.) to what you stated, and leave the other tourneys alone?

I don't care if flying horses are allowed in the alternative tournies... just so long as you don't touch the standard tourney ruleset.

PS
Magic weapons should never be allowed in a tourney, period.

I'd be fine adding this as a third type.

I kind of hyper-paced pvp of the poison/magic tourneys. It's balls to the wall, and although goofy, pretty fun.

Im ok with a gm weapon + all pots (player crafted) tournament as well, but I rather like the pots+magics and would hate to see them removed.

I understand and agree.

I’d like to suggest adding the new rule set to the schedule, preferably without removal of the All Magic, All Potion tourneys.

It would be nice if these divisions could be filtered through the statistics web site, but include multiple or all divisions into the filteration process too...

I very much support this idea. Poison dexers are an even match for hally mages, we don't need magical weapons.

Can't we just add more tourny's? we dont need to take any off the list.

I would like to raise the question of why there is a magical 1v1 tournament in the first place..? To me it just seems like a gimp way of allowing players to utilize all the trinkets they obtained without fear of losing them..

It's not like there are any rule changes, it only allows you to use magical gear, and potions.. Which in turn makes each match last 4x as long.. On top of that I don't think that the magical tournaments, for both 1v1 & 2v2 should affect the Ranking System.

Just my .02$

And that is for for more that just a few people. I agree with them, I wouldn't want their fun taken away.

I think the ranking systems should be independent because the rule sets are so different.

I propose the following names, and thus separate ladders, for the 3 rule sets:

Potions and Magic

Potions and Player Crafted Items
Any better ideas?
