Mounts and Tactics

I got quick gains in tactics by doing two things.
I used my horse...and I changed weapons regularly.
Just need a vet rather then a healer.
Let me also say you don't want to do this afk as the gains are fast and depending on vet skill level/melee skill level you may have to step back a couple times.
But the gains are jumping and it builds up stats on your mount.

Actually, this is not stupid. Tactics only gains on successful hits, the lower the weapon skill (in a mounts case, wrestling) the higher your chance to hit! If you are strictly trying to gain tactics, and have already GMd your weapon skill, this is a good way to go.

This scenario would only be good if you also had a tamer that needed to gain veterinary and animal lore. The horses HPS are horrible.

Pets gain skill. It won't be long until the horse reaches 100 wrestling, thus your back to 50/50 hit/miss ratio.

No horses can't get to 100 wrestling they have skill caps set lower then players. Of course it's better if they have at least some skill I had to stop a couple times frequently in order for the bandages to keep up at first, later though it was fine every now and then I'd stop.

Even if this were so they seem to take higher damage which means for better gains. Previous to, they have no skill (since they are stable tames) and even at high levels it's actually better that they do have some amount of wrestling. That isn't arguable.(not to mention it extends an animals stamina in which to post pone fatigue)
And this is actually good if you want to train two melee skills such as swords and wrestling. It seems to me that the system checks for skill range in comparison for damage in order to raise tactics.
I could be wrong but when I trained at zero wrestling to gain the skill after I acheived 97.1 tactics, tactics started to jump. I used a paladin "who was unarmored and holding a sword" I had previously trained wrestling on another character with. This is just from observation.

I don't think damage has anything to do with Tactics gains, but I've seen stranger things happen..

This guy has no idea what he's talking about. Tactic's only does a skill-check for gains upon a successful hit. Damage has no factor in whether you gain or not.
So, fighting an unarmed paladin still obviously yields the best gains, because you won't miss, and in-turn getting more skill-checks. I don't know why you persist on arguing with me about mechanics you simply know nothing about.

Re-read what I said...I was training wrestling as well when I was using paladin thus I had him armed and damage is a factor not just a hit thus he was unarmoured. The more damage you do the better your gains are. Let people decide for themselves. I GMed quick using both unarmoured npcs and stable pets in this strategy. Take it or leave it.
People will know, and remember this post and both or commentaries on it when they look up how to gain. Just saying.

You, once again, have no idea what you're talking about. Damage has
NO FACTOR in
ANY melee skill or for tactics skill-checks. The only factor that determines a skill-check is
successful hits, for tactics. Wrestling & all other weapon skills get a skill-check when you have the
appropriate weapon equipped and use it in combat.
Stop arguing your point, because you are completely wrong.

I usually just GM swords/wrestle on a jehlom fighter. If tactics aint GM yet then dualbox a toon with 0 weaponskill and punch him while healing him with bandages.

on a mage, you always hit. gains are 2x faster.
