They've been having trouble for a couple days. You should be able to eventually get in. I'f not there's a couple direct servers you can try:
irc.ircsoulz.org
irc.indianskickass.com
irc.tobug.org

All port 6667

We're considering changing IRC networks, these problems on newnet have been becoming more frequent
