Five Bucks for Five Years: Unofficial Donation Drive
This is entirely unofficial and not on behalf of staff, but, as you most of you probably realize, UOSA will have its fifth anniversary soon. Five years of PKs, tamers, house lootings, RP orcs, bizarre Josh Lee rants, epic whiners, and strikingly handsome thief guild guildmasters.
And all of that for FREE.
So I propose that, if possible, you take a little bit of time in the next two weeks, preferably now, to donate the paltry amount of FIVE DOLLARS to the shard in thanks for the past five years. Five bucks isn't much, but if enough of us chip in it will add up. (I realize that many of you do donate, some monthly. But, even so, throw in five extra bucks as a token of appreciation for the occasion.)
DONATE HERE!
I don't know much about the shard's finances. I know that there are no neon hats for five bucks, there are no skill balls for five bucks, and so on. There isn't any funny business that would ruin the game even as it made the shard easy to finance.
But I'm also not sure if the current donation level covers the expense of maintaining a shard and webpage, or if staff occasionally dip into their own funds to keep us entertained.
Five bucks for five years. It isn't much, so chip in to show staff some appreciation and to help keep the shard going.
DONATE HERE!

I can start donating again once I reopen an account with a credit union. I purposely closed my account at a major bank in unison with the Occupy movement for just reasons...
I am seriously not keen on having my finances documented however.

Or you can just hit up the federal reserve and ask for a bailout, problem solved.

Re: Five Bucks for Five Years: Unofficial Donation Drive
In order to get more support for this, I am going to raffle off a castle deed at the end of this. Everyone who participates in this fund raiser will be assigned a number. Derrick will assign a number to each person who donates and I will pick a number at random. No personal information will be given out. I figure I'll try to do the drawing on our anniversary.
If you needed more of a reason to support the shard here it is. Good luck!

would be rlly sad if they only donate because they have a chance to win a castle deed.Sebben wrote:In order to get more support for this, I am going to raffle off a castle deed at the end of this. I will donate this coming semester when I start working in my work study.

Thanks, Sebben!
Do note that this is entirely player driven, and staff is only assisting us in keeping a record of donations for the purposes of allowing the prize to be awarded. Sebben won't have a record of who donated what, and staff is not giving away anything!

Re: Five Bucks for Five Years: Unofficial Donation Drive
I agree that it shouldn't be the reason to donate, but I honestly don't mind one bit if all they want is the castle deed.
This shard costs money to keep running, and I'm sure Derrick has had to pay out of pocket to keep it afloat. Over the history of this shard I can only think of a couple times when he outright asked for support. I think the holidays are a great opportunity to show our support for Derrick and the shard.
That being said. Please donate and have a shot at my gesture of appreciation!

Re: Five Bucks for Five Years: Unofficial Donation Drive
Might I suggest (assuming it's not already your plan) doing the raffle ingame using a bag and books?
