When someone sends you a private message and you read it, it lets the sender know that you read it. Unless you have a problem with the person that sent a message to you, it is rude to not reply.

Hah. To be fair, I do that a lot. But I swear it's only because I get distracted before responding and forget about it. IMO, It's safe to resend /once/ without sounding too desperate! I don't think it's rude not to reply. I think it's rude that you would PM someone and expect them to read it and reply, even if they don't want to!
