Okay lets be real, events like player ran events happen rarely.
Events where you are forced in teams to work with people you may never interact with opens up a whole new level of social interaction.
Siege combat is awesome. The fact you wont be ress killed trying to loot your own corpse to get back in the action against mounted players when yours got killed even more awesome. Everyone is on foot, everyone comes back to try again with everything they had on person.
I seen more people in real game with events then I do now since they were taken away.
It automatically flags players which destroys any inclination for griefing.
There is a lot to say about events.... more loot is given away in game events then is had in these automatic events.
I think you are missing the point. You want to encourage new players and get the population socially active instead of it being ran by elitist vets. Should there be a safe place to watch learn and involve yourself in pvp...heck yeah....sorry but heck yeah. That's the best way for new players (or returning vets) to learn and get into the groove.
Those established can then watch others and recruit those who they will in drafting them into their guilds. I don't see why its insulting to approve of the games for their positive aspects they have on the server.
If we go back to those who were trying to eliminate events you will see many were those who were about to jump ship and go to another server so were doing their best to take away the unique things this server had going for it. That is absolute truth. And when those others failed...some of those same people have come back.

Re: bring em back
Test center was a spoiler not events. I think events let people practice and when it was over then things got real.
New players hate coming into a game knowing nothing and just instantly dying. It costs a ton for them to keep resupplying. We lose a lot of new players that way.
Just saying 12 minute freebies every once in a great while is not game breaking.
This is a complicated game, its not something you can just jump into. The events helped to accustom people.

I agree, when I was a noob here I was afraid to PVP in the field because I was rusty and even forgot era mechanics. I was unsure how my skills would hold up. Then after watching some fights and participating in events it made me adventure out more knowing id be able to compete with anyone who attacked me. I also made friends through events, players I wouldnt have otherwise known.
Question : During the event era, how many times did you participate in a PVP event and then go do other activities afterward? Many o' nights dueling with the top duelers after the events trying to get better. Many o' nights of huge fights at the GY and in bucs.

Absolutely Flea. The best part of the night of an event was right before and right after. The hour after events was freaking MADNESS, soooo much fun. Bucs was insane.

This.
Re: bring em back
1. Are you motivated by silver?
No.
2. By an organized system put on by staff?
Yes
3. Having a 100% safe zone to pvp/pvm in?
No
4. Did you like the fact that they had multiple events per week (sometimes per day) which let you "play UO" without actually playing UO?
Multiple events would be great. How are events not playing UO? I felt for example when Wu the horse showed up in the Fire Dungeon and it brought out several players I had not seen in some time I was playing UO. I thought that when I helped in the battle to rid the dungeon of gem encrusted monsters with many others that I was playing UO. These types of things tend to get people out to get togethor and interact. To state if you enjoy anything more than an exact era accurate experience is not playing UO is being a bit hypocritical knowing that there are many things in uosa that are not exactly era accurate.
5. Did you come to an era-accurate shard, assuming we'd always have out of era features such as automated events?
No. I came to an era accurate shard because the threat of PK's and being able to play a PK was always the most thrilling fun of UO to me. I do also like to hunt rares or go after chests and if I encounter someone going for the same thing I can still fight them for the loot.
6. When you say "bring back events" are you referring to those pvp events (DD, CTF, tournaments) that leave a decent portion of the player base on the table or are you referring to all events (dungeon raids, DD, CTF, tournaments, bagball, craftathons, escort missions, etc)?
Both! Any and all, in fact if you could think up anything else new that would bring back the crowd then lets throw that in there too!
7. What specifically did you like about these events that you can't recreate as a community?
Starting from a nuetral base is one thing. Guilds do events when they can or when they want to but there is something about having an organised event where there is no bias involved that brings people out to interact. Those nuetral unbiased people are Derrick and his staff. Those events are supported by most everyone.
No.
